Part number correction for *better* fitting belts

Measured my alternator pulleys Driver's side averages about 78 mm at far outside edge Pass side is slightly bigger at about 79mm. You'll have to trust me on measurements because it's hard as heck to focus on a dial caliper with one hand using a cell phone cam. But I'd say give or take a...

    M1031 Maintenance Box

You might be better off selling the 1031 complete as-is. If you want a 205 under a 1008 it's easier just to put a civvy/junkyard 205 in a 1008. 1031 uses the later slip yoke style 205. The only reason they used the 205 was because the 208 doesn't have a PTO provision. if you aren't using the...

Part number correction for *better* fitting belts

I think I've figured out partially where the discrepancy comes from... Out of curiosity I looked up the p/n for a fan/alt belt on Napa'a website for an '84 K30 with 6.2 diesel. Napa'a site says p/n is 5725. Napa 5725 crosses to Dayco 15480 (same as what I used) So Autozone and Napa both agree...

Part number correction for *better* fitting belts

Info requires several notes on fitment/installation though, and I'm not sure how to add that to the wiki without making it confusing as heck. Maybe admin could make a note? The sizes currently on the wiki are approximately the longest belts that will fit and still work (any longer and you'd have...

Part number correction for *better* fitting belts

These belt part #'s are listed elsewhere on SS but I would discourage using them. Both alternator belts will be on the far/long side of adjustment. The 15455 P/S pump belt is too long IMO and cannot be properly tightened if it's stretched or worn even the slightest bit. These are the sizes that...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

In the transmission tunnel next to the 4wd shift lever is a microswitch that prevents the governer from spooling up the gen unless it senses the T-case is in neutral. The arm that controls that switch tends to get bent up and not function properly (when you find it, you'll see it's a really...

    thundering M1008 3" straight piped

How do I upload a video from my Apple iPhone to YouTube? :: Online Tech Support Help :: Ask Dave Taylor!® or if you don't like Youtube, you can upload to Photobucket and they'll give you a link to share the vid. Just make sure the sub album with the video in it is marked "public" or else no one...

    M1010 rear axle swap

IIRC, 1 tons have 40" perch spacing, 3/4 and 1/2 tons have 42". If you want single rear wheel, why not just use the housing you have and swap gears? A dually width axle is going to be too wide. You're going to have to pull the carrier anyway assuming you want to put your existing Detroit Locker...

New M1031 owner with a NP205 Transfer Case Rebuilt question

*Some* diesels you should avoid running at idle for extended periods because it's bad for the turbo. Cummins recommends no more than 10 minutes at idle for most truck engines in their operator manuals. If the engine is operating at off-idle rpm, turbo cooling/oiling is less of an issue since oil...

    Parts in hub assembly

If you're willing to spend $50-60, Stage 8's X-nut setup works a LOT better than the OEM hardware. X-Lock Locking Spindle Nut | Locking Nuts

    strange "bump" when decelerating quickly

If it's still stock driveline, the OP's m1009 has a different setup than what you're describing. CUCV's all use a slip yoke style tailhousing, so there isn't a splined coupling in the driveshaft itself. If you want to get rid of it, you need to change out the T-case output shaft/tailhousing to a...

replacing cucv flex plate, any easy ways??

If you don't have a flywheel turner, I'd recommend getting one. About $20. https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1CHKZ_enUS434US434&aq=f&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=flywheel+turner

    M1009 Question, Jacks for lifting

OEM jack was a screw jack. Looks like this. You can usually get them for about $10 from the junkyard - pretty much any pickup truck jack will work. Sometimes they're behind the seat, sometimes stored under the hood screwed to the inner fenderwell.

    Buying my first CUCV advice?

Figure "the usual suspects" replacement parts into your budget.... -Inspect driveshaft for forklift damage/dents - it's common to have to replace rear driveshafts (~$400-450 for custom rear) -More often than not, you'll need to replace both batteries (tray fits Group 31 or 6TL. 31 is a more...

    U-Joint #'s?

    Federal sticker

Well that exact argument's got me about 5,000 miles on my "K30" so far. Reminds me, I'm due for another oil change soon. :D As for the OP, maybe he should just snap a pic of an M1009 air cleaner and show them that.

    Axle assembly part numbers

On the rear 14 bolt you want one preferably from a 3/4 ton not a M1008 (1 ton) 1 ton perch spacing (40 1/2") is specifically for the 1 ton frames. The 3/4 ton SRW rears are the same width hub-to-hub as the 1 ton SRW rears, but the 3/4 ton has slightly wider spaced springs (either 42" or 42 1/2"...

    M1009 Power Steering Belt Replacement

This is an easy one! Once you know where everything's hiding and what tools to use, it's a simple 5 minute job. For alternator belts because I have a PTO governor control on my particular CUCV, I can't use the prybar trick. I have to use a special tool to tension my alt belts. I have no choice...

    Federal sticker

The federal safety/emissions label with the wording "this vehicles conforms to blah blah blah for the year 19xx" is usually located on the radiator support of a non-military vehicle. I used to look for that sticker every time I had to order parts for a customer's car because it always has the...

IP timing does this seem too retarded ?

Glad that did it. If you ever cut a stock filter open you'll see why they clog up pretty easily - there's not much filter element area in there. If you weren't sure when the filter was last changed, then it probably needed changing anyway. If you swap over to a spin on filter setup they tend to...
