What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

LOL. I drive it 100 miles a year, I don't have MPG #s. Lubrication and noise reduction are the only reason I need ;)

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

After my truck has been sitting for what seems like 6 months.. The first long stretch after installing the battery cutoff switch and fixing the fuel leak.. I was half expecting to have to use ether.... I think I might have gotten 3 rotations out of it before it fired right up...... As I was...

    M1031 identification

I have an M1031, box, PTO GEN, etc. sill plate says M1028. Box was produced in 1990 (Or '89, have to double check). I remember when I picked it up I thought it was weird that the title/vehicle were listed as 1028, and the box was produced years after the truck was made...

    Fort Bragg 5 ton assistance?

Mine was listed and titled as an '84, there was no confusion on the one I bought. I did look at ones that had no year listed, which is why I called for clarification....

    M1031 identification

My M1031 started life as an M1028 in '86, and was modified to an M1031 with PTO in '90...right before it was deployed... These are fleet vehicles, they're changed to fit the intended purpose all the time.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

It only takes the tiniest bit of air to make it feel inoperative... You need to swing it lock to lock, left to right, multiple times.. Make sure the belt is tight and routed properly.. It took a couple days to work out the dead spots... I noticed it most at low speeds like pulling into a...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

There is a flaw in the way they set up the resistor bank. It uses the resistance of the glow plugs in combination with the resistor bank to reduce voltage. If you lose ONE glow plug, the voltage gets raised to all the other glow plugs, causing them to fail prematurely.. once 2 fail, then 3...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

AFAIK, on an NHC250, The only thing needing power, once running, is the fuel shutoff solenoid, which can be turned open manually if need be. That should be less than an amp...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I always thought the M1010 and M1031 (I have both) should have been DRW.

    Need Help with Batteries

    I wouldn't go any smaller than a Group 65. Group 31 or 8d preferred.

    Lost my fuel cap.

High flow pumps. Normal for 'big rig' pumps. Kinda different when you gotta fill 120 gal tanks. Even a single 80 gal tank takes ffoorreevveeerrr on a std pump.

Do you pay tonnage with collector plates? (WA state)

Correct. 'Here's 2$, can you get me a slurpee while you're out'? .. You're now carrying cargo and subject to CDL requirements.. lol It was an extreme situation, but we were talking about LAW, with a guy whose entire job is to know commercial vehicle law and regulations. I was given similar...

Do you pay tonnage with collector plates? (WA state)

Also, keep in mind, any time you start 'helping your buddy out', you're engaging in commerce, and require a CDL. I had a nice conversation with a CVE guy.. If a friend asks me to buy him a slurpee while I was out, and I do, technically it becomes 'for hire', and the slurpee is cargo...and...
