    Anyone running a front locker?

I don't see why I would need locking hubs. The transfer case will only engage the front axle when the rears slip, which would be in a loose terrain type of situation. The rest of the time, such as normal on road driving it would be just coasting along disengaged. Unless I am missing something...

    Anyone running a front locker?

I've been looking options to increase traction without totally killing drivability but there aren't many for the 5 tons I guess. Every year some of my buddies and I head to the mountains and see how far we can push up the logging roads in the snow. It gets deep, we go until the lead rig can't...

    Anyone running a front locker?

thanks for the input. The worst thing about the 5 tons is lack of locker options! The only one I know of is the Detroit and the extremely rare factory air lockers that everyone seems to keep secret. An ARB or similar air locker sure would be nice. I may try the front locker for a while and...

    Anyone running a front locker?

I'm considering adding a front locker to increase my traction in rough terrain and snow. I'm thinking of putting it in the front since it is only engaged on demand and shouldn't have a negative effect on road or most other conditions when the sprague is not engaged. I don't want to add it to...

    multifuel parts interchange

Do both of the blocks have the "TD" cast into the same spot? Any info on the difference between them?

    multifuel parts interchange

Thanks for the info. I didn't think there would be a difference in blocks (other than "TD" blocks) or cranks but thought heads and rods could be different. Anyone know a place to pick up the LDS pistons, liners and new style head gaskets at a fair price? Some places think this stuff is gold...

    multifuel parts interchange

Are the heads, block, crank and rods the same in the LD, LDT and LDS engines? I have a friend who is giving me an LD engine and I would like to rebuild it with LDS pistons as a backup for my LDS 465-1a. I know the pistons, injection pump and injectors are different, I just want to make sure...

If you decide to part out that rig, I could use some things. I'm in Olympia so I can drive to you and remove them myself to make it easier for you. PM me if you do thanks and congrats on the new rigs!

    Trans seal and syncro

Thanks for the info! It's a spicer 6352, does the tranny need to be pulled or can the syncros be replaced through the top cover? Is there anything else that commonly wears out on these transmissions that I should be watching for? Thanks for the help

    Trans seal and syncro

I know this is an old post but did you fix the syncros? How tough was it? I'm looking at a M54A2 that grinds second and third a little and was just curious how hard it will be to fix. Thanks

    5 ton identification

M813a1, I have the vin # it's in the original post. Yes, the chain is real fancy. There is lots of evidence of farm engineering in this rig but haven't found any bailing twine yet!

    5 ton identification

Is there any way to decode the vin and find out other info? What is the going rate (ballpark, i know there are lots of variables) for a 5 ton of this vintage with no winch, hard top and a water tank on back?

    5 ton identification

Hello, I'm looking at purchasing a 5 ton but the seller knows very little about it. He says it's a 1953 kaiser but is not sure. He thinks its a deuce! But it's a 5 ton for sure. It has the LDS 465-1a engine thats runs great and was rebuilt in 1969 based on the engine data plate. All I have...
