    Weird M939 20 foot bed... Insulated/shielded?

The pics also show how wet the wood was down near the bed floor. Drilling it required cleaning the teeth of the hole saw out regularly because it was so wet. This is why I will be removing it. Hopefully, the lumber will be usable for something else.

    Weird M939 20 foot bed... Insulated/shielded?

To follow up on this thread, I drilled through the bed with a hole saw and found that what I though was possibly some sort of "stone dust" must have just been rust buildup from the underside of the top layer of metal in that area. The construction appears to be as follows: Solid wood (not sure...

    Weird M939 20 foot bed... Insulated/shielded?

I definitely think this bed would not have been procured for hauling standard palletized cargo. One errant nail sticking out of the bottom of a pallet, and the top layer of these panels gets torn up, with no simple repair. So, thinking more about this and looking at the bumper numbers of some...

    Weird M939 20 foot bed... Insulated/shielded?

I'm sure there are multiple manufacturers, but I don't think that is the only explanation for this difference. As I said, these panels are welded together and are on TOP of the normal floor. There were a few holes in one spot of my bed where it appeared to have been torched to remove something...

    Weird M939 20 foot bed... Insulated/shielded?

Here are some that appear NOT to have the raised bed followed by some that do. It's hard to tell on the camo bed, but generally, the bottom of the tailgate aligns to the bottom of the reflector on the raised versions (except the ratty bed, but it has had tie-downs added, so the reflector was...

    Weird M939 20 foot bed... Insulated/shielded?

Since this is a 20' bed, I looked around at the recently/previously sold M927s and they all appear to have the same raised floor. I could not find any good pics of the rear any M814s to see what they have, but my recollection is that they are plain steel bed bottom. Can anyone with a...

    Weird M939 20 foot bed... Insulated/shielded?

I got this bed to use as a bridge over my stream. While stripping it down, I noticed that there were some holes in the bed that did not go through to the bottom. On closer inspection, it appears that the stock bed floor has 4 panels ( that are approximately 1.5" thick ) on it that are fully...

    M1028a3?

No, unfortunately that is pretty conclusive that it is open.

    M1028a3?

The Dana70 had a Detroit Locker.

    M1028a3?

I will say that I *suspect* there are not likely any factory versions, but I don't deal in certainties with these things anymore. Many people think that all M1028A1's were conversions, but I have a pic of a factory dataplate showing otherwise. I've not yet seen any factory pics of either an...

    M125-A1 Cargo Truck Cummins V8 300 Powered

While digging, I also re-found this book. Doesn't have the A1 diesel, but had the standard gasser model.

    M125-A1 Cargo Truck Cummins V8 300 Powered

Cool! I'm glad that truck went to good home!! If I'd had one more beer that Friday night, I might have hit the buy it now myself! :D I've got a US Army color pic of that truck around here somewhere that I'll try to dig out and post up.

    Odd M1028 bed

M1028 dually trucks would have Dana 70HD rear with detroit locker and sway bar setup, which I can't tell for sure, but it looks right. The rear has longer lugs to accomodate the approx 1/2-5/8" spacers that were used between the rear wheels on each side. The spacers allowed running 235/85R16...

All Military Vehicles banned from road in Maryland

Agreed. I've had plenty of SF-97s (as many of us have over the years) and NONE have ever had OFF-ROAD ONLY restrictions. The only ones I know of with that restrictions were for HMMWVs (as is the case for the SF-97 shown in their bulletin). The washing of HMMWV titles to circumvent this...

2019 Red Ball Military Show / Swap meet Gilbert Pa Sept 27-28

Looking forward to the show. I have not been able to attend in several years. I have the following that I can deliver to the show free of charge. All parts are New/NOS unless otherwise specified. I will be at the show on both Friday and Saturday: - M103A3 Power Plant / Genset trailer cover...

    M1028A3 new project

That is a cool truck. I vaguely remember a similar truck coming out of Meade many moons ago, but it was not the exact same shelter. Several also came out without shelters, but with only the angled fenders over the dual rear wheels. Once you get it home, I'd be curious to see the data plate...

Who, if anybody, is going to Aberdeen this year?

Unfortunately, a change in jobs forced me to pick and choose vacation days this year. With the National show in York this year, I gave that priority. Combining that with some other obligations has forced me to forego buying any spaces this year. I hope the weather holds out and the crowd is...

    R.I.P.--73M819--Ron Harris

Very sad to hear of this. It sucks losing another member and lover of big green iron. I never met Ron personally, but he was always willing to help whenever I had a question that I figured he would know the answer to. Even though he was outwardly not very fond of my favorite series of...
