Yes the kilmat/CCF/mlv would increase heat but shouldn't make any difference in a liquid cooled system like the power steering. If it was air cooled only you could run into problems.
Areas i've done where I've been worried about heat so far are the valve covers, engine valley, oil pan, and the...
well got the power steering done, this is a picture before I put the last sheet of mlv on. still needs some kind of tape that will stick to mlv for the seems but with the hood up and the wheel turn against the locks u can't hear a power steering whine just a change in the engine but inside u can...
sound proofed another area on the humvee that might get over looked which is behind the rear seats.
I fit a sheet of kilmat, some closed cell foam, and 3/4in horse mat behind there. now when u tap on the inner fender much less noise makes it through
Need to work on finishing up sound...
took the doghouse off today even with all the fasteners removed/loosened it was still stuck really good so for those looking to improve the seal around the dog house I recommend adding kilmat/dynamat around where the doghouse sits like this.
you can't see any of the kilmat once the doghouse...
All depends on how long it was ran, short burst won't do any damage. U could always get a bore scope and look at the cylinders or use a compression gauge.
well changed the fluid and it is quieter and thinner but u have no idea what fluid was in there other than it was some kind of ATF.
can still hear the pump tho so going to try and sound proof it next I'll report back when I get around to doing it.
I have group 65 in mine and they fit with room left over but I also can't use the factory hold downs. I believe group 31 also fits in there but it's probably a tight fit. Group 31 batteries are probably the biggest and most CCA you can fit under the seat.
I also use feltz tires, just got 2...
Working pressure or circulation pressure? I know on my hydraulic gear pump the amount of pressure is RPM dependent till it reaches the pressure that the relief valve is set to then it bleeds off the extra pressure back to the tank.
I'm unsure how power steering regulates pressure
ya your right that's all I'm doing with fluid is making it thinner to reduce pressure.
I wonder if they build them to run way higher than needed at all times so when u use say a winch, outlanders, or whatever they have its not a issue.
tho that would probably help with the noise it would also reduce operating pressure. I'll change the fluid out and see how it does then I'll wrap the pump in sound deadening material and call it good as it looks like it's gonna be a noise pump by design so blocking the noise is the best option.
here's ya go, if I had to do it again I would have taken each layer of aluminum off and than taken a new razor blade and trimmed the whole thing so it looked like 1 solid peice but with the top aluminum layer off you don't see it with the hood down.
here is a spot that pushes out a little...
Just a little sound proofing today added closed cell foam between the hood and the window frame made more of a difference than I was expecting, also ordered more Kilmat 50sq/ft this time instead of 25 tho I'm thinking now I should mat the whole underside of the hood and then put CCF over it so...
Well with the picture above it's clear that humvee's don't use a gear pump at all they have the standard civilian style vane pump and the beefy version of a vane pump pictured above but nothing that resembles a gear pump.
I'm actually going to be testing that as I had that same thought and I...
Wow thanks for the pics, ya that's not your standard gear pump looks like a vane pump using hydraulic pressure maybe but neat none the less.
Ya sound proofing it wouldn't be easy or pretty i'm sure because of the pulley there won't be a lot room to get much on that side of the pump. I'll...
