ya not sure I would want to go away from the gear pump but gear pumps aren't all that noisy either I have a 40ton and 20ton hydraulic gear pumps on my wood splitters and you can't hear the pumps running and both of the engines make less noise than the diesel.
If these pumps are just a bad...
Been sound proofing the humvee and the quieter it gets the more I notice the power steering. I was thinking about rebuilding or replacing the pump even tho there is no foam or air bubbles in the reservoir I'm not sure it's not sucking a small amount of air around a seal that I can't see evidence...
I think a lot of the above depends all on where you live. I live in a small town and tho it would get a lot of looks it wouldn't be a problem even if they called the cops. Of the times I've been pulled over (and carrying a loaded gun) I always inform the officer of it even tho i'm not required...
I like it will probably do that next time.
now I need to play with tire pressure and see how low you can go before your sitting on the run flats. This would only be for extreme off roading not driving around town.
ya learned that the hard way. also after getting it apart I figured out it was the runflat that was doubling as a bead lock.
fun learning experience but was more impressed on how the tire stayed on the rim with probably a total of 15000lbs of side pressure, I understand now that I was just...
Just a little story for ya on my first time changing one of these tires.
after getting the tire off I unbolted the plate and tired it on the tire machine which didn't work so I thought to myself I would put 4 nuts back on the rim to keep it from flexing so the machine could break the bead and...
ya filter is in there. I might just end up modifying the reservoir so it doesn't suck air unless the humvee was tipped on its side.
Added: after looking at it I think it would be easy enough to cut both barbs off the bottom and switch them around and weld it back up.
well I'm done chasing my tail on this issue figured it out.
Happens to be a design flaw with the power steering reservoir. I assumed the pump sucked from the center of the reservoir and the return lines were on the outside but it's the opposite and what's worse is the feed line to the pump is...
ya if it wasn't sucking air when i was doing it I'm sure it would be great to go up and down sharp inclined to help get trapped air out. The oil cooler being higher than the lines running to and from it would be a area I would think air would get trapped but going down a step decline would put...
update: replaced the power steering cooler lines as they were the only ones I found that were questionable and bled the system.
climbing with it today it started whining right away so I guess I'll replace the rest of the 3/8 line even tho they look good just to rule it out.
anyone know what...
ya I would assume the same, after trying to bleed the air out of the system this morning I opened the reservoir this afternoon and no signs of bubbles or foaming so the engine must only suck air when the engine/frame move alot.
I did notice that the short peice of rubber right off the bottom of...
I haven't had any start box issues yet so no experience here but I would try and diagnose it before buying a new one. You already got the box apart so might as well replace that resistor if you can see the color bands on it or find a picture of another KDS board. Hows the rest of the board look...
well never did figure this out made sure the fluid was good and full. climbed with it again today and getting the same noise after climbing.
I did notice on the way home that pushing hard on the brake pedal makes the noise worse. will have to look into that in the morning.
easier yes but also less quality, I started with earmuffs and they work but a little sound deadening will give you better results without wearing anything on your head.
why do you say that? I've dropped it over 10dbs so far without to much work now you can talk at 55mph without yelling. seems like another 10dbs is doable without pulling the body.
