    Starter bolt woes

Dependable, the weight and the lower speed benefits make sense to me. With a GR starter needing to run faster because of the reduction, it probably takes just an instant longer to reach full speed, which would give it a slightly softer start and a lower amp draw at the start. It is starting to...

    Starter bolt woes

How does it provide the reduced strain? Do you feel it is more efficient? It takes the same amount of energy to spin the motor a certain speed. It seems like adding a gear is going to lose efficiency. I have used both starters and feel the direct drive starter is built more robust. It seems to...

    Starter bolt woes

I was wondering the same thing and the only thing I could think of is possibly the GR starter might start more gradual at the instant it begins. If it does, it can't be heard at least by me. I would say a ton of bricks weighs more than a ton of feathers, most, if not all the time. That is...

    Shelter carrier hardware

We washed of the shelter just before dark and the pictures didn't turn out to well. I'll have to take some more tomorrow or the day after of how the shelter sits in the dunnage, front and sides. The photo of the dunnage before the shelter was in place was taken before it was screwed down, but it...

    Shelter carrier hardware

I put the shelter in the truck last night and will fasten it down today. I was running out of time so I fastened everything down and took a chance it would fit. Everything fit except for a minor detail with the cleats. They were an inch too long. Instead of 19" and 10" they needed to be 18" and...

My cucv burns up a glow plug every 3-4K miles

Could the Wellman plugs be made better today than they were 25 years ago? I've been using them and haven't noticed any issues, that I thought were glow plug reliability.

My cucv burns up a glow plug every 3-4K miles

I agree with keeping it stock. The one thing I would check is the connector that attaches to the glow plug. They get tired and don't fit tight with age and you get a poor connection. When this happens it is a little like a plug is going bad and feeds more volts to the other plugs. This will make...

    Shelter carrier hardware

Thanks for the pictures. I followed the plans and my dunnage looks like yours. I'm debating now whether to set the shelter in and tac the wood in place or nail it all down then lower it in. The CUCV plans specified those shackle cutouts, so there must be a reason. I see the one thing for sure...

    Shelter carrier hardware

Even if your shelter was within specs, or was brand new for that matter, I don't see the reason for the precision. To require the cutouts in the top plank for CUCV installation, indicates those small shackles had a purpose in a CUCV. That is assuming the cutouts were for their access. With such...

    Shelter carrier hardware

So I took one of the end planks and held it up to the shelter. It looks like the cutouts in it are for access to the shackles on the 4 corners. I thought those shackles were for a different application than the CUCV. Now it looks like they are used for something to possibly lift the shelter, I...

    Shelter carrier hardware

I think I know how the shelter is mounted with the hardware. It's the dunnage under the shelter that is perplexing. The specs for it are down to the 16th of an inch. Besides lifting the shelter higher in the bed so it won't ride on the bed rails, I don't see what the end planks are designed to...

    Shelter carrier hardware

I have cut the pressure treated lumber to the dimensions in the TM but I'm not making sense of it when it's in the back of my truck. When nailing it down the assembly instructions call for a 3/16 overhang in the back, a 13/16" overhang in the front. There are cutouts for the fenders and the...

    Shelter carrier hardware

Does anyone have a shelter in their CUCV? I had one in a M1028 9 years ago. I didn't have the correct dunnage under it at the time and I ended up removing the shelter. Sold the truck and eventually got a different M1028. I'm going to put the same shelter back in this current truck. I noticed the...

1980's Air Force deuce horn button

I have a 1985 M35a2c that needs a horn button. I saw there is an "old style" that's common and a "new style". Was the new style a replacement after the last AF deuce was made in 1989? or did the AF specify the old style horn button on their trucks? It was confusing when looking for a...

    M1028a3?

I'm cleaning up the truck, and will be taking the bed off to replace the front panel. We are going to put a shelter on it soon and I'll take some pictures when that happens. I took a picture of the rear bumper today, because I haven't seen an eyelet like that on a CUCV before, and was wondering...

    Another CUCV accident

The military liked their vehicles with dents. If it wasn't dented, they put at least 1 in right away! The dent makes it more original.

    Another CUCV accident

Insurance companies and their connected shops are really upsetting. It's off topic a little, but after telling them I wanted to buy back my totaled truck, somebody threw some plastic garbage between my air filter and the turbo on my 97 dodge cummins. After getting it put back together a month...

    M1028a3?

When you say permanently mounted, you can't unbolt them? There is one on You Tube that looks the same as mine, the owner painted it tan. He doesn't mention the data plate and I could not see it, but he does have the same fenders. I'm going to watch it again to possibly see if it is AF.

    Got a new m1009

I had my spare blow out laying on the back floor on a hot day. Did damage to the rear seat when it went too. Glad I wasn't in the truck.
