Brake system overhaul dot3 or dot5?

Dot 3-4 synthetic is not hydroscopic, that is why I use it. I have seen internal corrosion on older well maintained Dot 3 systems, so I avoid regular Dot 3.

Brake system overhaul dot3 or dot5?

Dot 5 is great stuff. Overkill in these applications, as systems were not designed for it. If the system has Dot 5, I would recommend carrying containers of it because, as others said, it is not as readily available. I use Valvoline synthetic Dot 3&4. Other companies probably make it, but that...

M1009 Electrical Problems after Changing Glow Plugs

I know I said this before, will repeat for general information, and maybe stop someone from getting hurt.. Mark every wire you disconnect, even if you are sure you know where it goes. To prevent wrecking wires or harness. Don't try to connect to batteries directly. Put a test light between...

Mark, I do not remember, did you have valves done? How worn are camshaft lobes?

Overturned HMMWV in NJ, stay safe folks

Back to the topic of this thread. Any news on cause of crash? The most plausibleexplanation is a previous post saying it looked like they had to take to the shoulder at highway speed, and got tangled up with the guard rail and it's support posts.

Overturned HMMWV in NJ, stay safe folks

Thank you for the video, tim292stro. Most people who do serious off-roading are well aware of the need for additional ROPS on most stock vehicles, civy or mil. This serves as a vivid reminder to folks new to the sport. Obviously, the ROPS needed to protect the occupants of a vehicle that...

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

I AGREE They did right thing. My thought is that customer is not supposed to be quality control, especially on something like a rebuilt trans or engine.

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

Yeah, but you had to do the work twice. If you had a shop do it, you would get 2 bills since they RR 2 trans..

? Which engine is being worked on now? Is it the good one you got from Gimpy?

    M923a2 Brake light problem

Electrical stuff like that would never stop me from buying. It comes down to a wiring or switch issue. Worst case fuse block. You can solder leads to a light bulb and test the circuit or buy a very inexpensive meter at Harbor Freight that will be more than adequate to diagnose just about...

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

You can do it in the field - I have. Need big flat files, plate glass, roll of emery cloth, bluing, etc. YOU DO NOT WANT TO tho- takes a lot of time and effort. Better to pay a few bucks and have them surface ground, unless you are really in the field and there is no machine shop around. When...

The Long Trip Home, AZ to WA

Glad you spotted that before you got to Grand Canyon. Don't want to loose trans there.

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

repeat - If he says it is ok, you should leave it alone. I trust the Gimp. He knows what he is doing.

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

What did Gimpy say about the engine? If he says it is ok, you should leave it alone. PS- just putting new rings in does not make the engine "completely fresh". Still has old valves, cam, tappets, oil pump... If I were putting new rings in, I would have the heads done, depending on how the...

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

Did yu try loading it up with a proper break in oil, like we suggested? Ya got little to loose now. Give it a shot before yu pull it and put in that big Cummins of your dreams.
