    Simple axle swap question ?

I have been looking at a lot of threads talking about axle swap and also reading threads where its done. Its ether shorten axle, or move leaf spring hanger out. What i am wondering, is why don't people just re-weld a new leaf spring mount on the axle ? It seems the easiest, and it would align...

    M38A1 body numbers?

Jinissen. Best way to find hood numbers, espec if it has the hood still, is to just carefully wet sand the hood or rear bumperets. The original numbers were painted on, latter were sticker

    Dist. & plugs

I personally like to pack with Vaseline, its light weight, doesn't drip everywhere and returns back to oil when hot oil mixes.

New to me M38A1 ! New finished pics up!!

Wow brake rebuild and main seals change, your jumping in feet first into the not so fun stuff. Good job.

    Dist. & plugs

Awesome to hear that simple fix worked, i have to admit, i probably wouldn't of have thought of just moving the wires. Do suggest though, when you do messing with your pump or distributor again, to time the pump correctly. That way it will match manual and no one else will get confused in...

    My first running M38A1

One thing nice about engine is that its simple, hardest part is having to replace a lifter/tappet, then crank has to come out, so highly suggest you double/triple check your lifter/tappets are in excellent condition. Rest can be messed with with out removing engine basically.

Three newbie questions for the M38A1 1953

Synthetic will mess up all the seals, and may leak like a siv then.

    Finally restoring the M37

I was going to paint mine a light grey on the outside and leave the interior green, but after seeing yours and how much it lightens up the interior, i think i will be painting it grey inside as well. Really like that seat color as well, matches well, and different than usual, but not a deterrent...

    Winter cover suggestion

Why not just get the cold weather hard top ? They don't go bad and make truck more usable during cold spells. Not like this will be the last time you have to deal with the snow.

    crankcase vent valve

I believe you are talking about the valve that connect to the manifold, right below the carb. This should be a pcv valve with some brass fitting , and it may or may not be connected to a swivel valve and then into the 3/16 hard tubing if i'm right. This is for the fording system and since you...

    combat rims

Love the look and ease of changing the tire on theses guys (espec since no one will touch the spring rim). I got a full set of 5 and had them blasted, there in good condition. The kicker though is that their ring studs need to be replaced. I checked Midwest and vintage, the cheapest i could find...

    CA law

I just got mine done. (don't use M word at dmv (its a farm truck)). If you can, find a register that deals with/or has time in service, they are much more understanding. Its not like most of us are pulling up in humvees, troop trucks, or armored vehicles. Mine is under the 17 digit, and he...

    CA law

What threw me is they registered my military Jeep not too long ago an m38a1 about 2 years. Also the truck is last forestry so I was hoping that would be no issue. I was rather blindsided because I had to bring it in for visual inspection because of it being an out-of-state truck. I would be...

    CA law

Well, i got a m37 54 w/w unit. Runs and drives just fine (even had a state title). Went to dmv, got it all registered and at the last minute i was informed that it may not be road legal because of being military.... Apparently in 2017 CA passed a law that dmv can only register ex military...

    m37 towing/payload ability

Been looking around and haven't found quite what i was looking for. I went through the tm's and found the military factory ratings, but what i was curious about is real life ratings. I understand it can pull/haul more than its rated, but its may not stop like it should ether, and gov like to...

    M43 will not restart

New chrome coils are trash. Went through six of them in less than a year when i restored my m38a1. Any little variance in heat or voltage breaks them. If you have to use them, suggest always keep two spares around per vehicle.

    M37 vs b1

Been looking into getting an m37. I have come across a few, but i was wondering, m37 vs b1. I know b1 came latter and engine/tranny are different. I also realize b1 "may" have Packard connectors, and different spare tire mounting. I read up as well that there was a few slight different changes...

Another one joins ranks of m38a1 ownership

I thought, i should post up on how it came out. Its been a while, but im still snooping around here. I did end up selling it. Funny how still looking for another, but going to do an m37 next, maybe m151 somewhere.

What have you done to your JEEP today

Crown makes a repo civi pump. As for diff, there is a lot. Military only has one rotating pump wheel, and the relief valve is in the casing, not the lid. Both fit same and do same job, just different designs and different availability.
