Nice. Seen a few m170's, but not usually in that good condition, especially back east. Got to admit, those seats sure look comfy though :). That's awesome you got a top with it as well. Looks like it was set up with a fording kit at one time. On a personal note, that paint job just doesn't do it...
You can also use 71 cj5 with 4 cyl. If you can find a good mili supplier, the newer coil are ok, its hit or miss. Since your in Cali, suggest http://www.eriksmilitarysurplus.com/igco24vo11.html. Got coil from him and is ok, no probs so far.
Sure is a beauty. Looks like all the fun is gone though. You won't have the fond memories or cursing and busting your knuckles trying to fix it, no hours of confusion trying to figure something out :). Driven it much yet ?
What clinto said. Also just a side note, make sure all of your grounding points are clean. Also is do the gauges work ? They don't need the engine to be running to work.
Just an update. Well i tried to do an axle swap on my frames, and the u-bolts were rusted solid. Tried everything and no good, had to cut. Went to all the local auto parts store and no one carried a suitable replacement for the U-bolt. In the end i ordered new bolts and shackles, my rubbers were...
Ya, more money. Expected to have new floors, was hoping the hat channel would be just repairs. My neighbor said he could re-bend the frame, got to get him to look at it now that body is off. Still have hope, because no cracks in the frame. Only real surprise was the hat channels being that bad.
I got the body off today. Found some good and some bad surprises. A lot of good body, unfortunately need replace back floor, and the hat channels. The frame has almost no rot, just light rust. Only rot saw was in back bumper, think the inner bar rusted. Defininitly a bent frame. Hoping to be...
Well....****, that's been my day. Tried to start it after it shut it's self down with squealing. Got it to run for about 12 seconds and then it squealed and shut down. Locked last time, but didn't this time. Found out when i rebuilt my carb, the seals were to old and turned to mush, also i...
LoL i love armytrucks torch. Bravo, a really easy trick is to use a torch (i like propane), Heat till read hot, let it cool for about 4 min, then squirt some liquid wrench on it and let it sit for another 5 min. Also if you can, heat both ends of the bolts. For example the floor and body bolts...
Papa always said keep them parts till your projects done, even if they are almost unrecognizable. That way you can compare new to old before or during installation, or just use that one clip they don't include on the new part :).
Nice to hear the progress. Yay, right there with you, there is always 1 part, or bolt your missing after ordering things. Like you i'm debating buying some flooring as well, im not that great of a welder either. Would suggest you see if you can find a metal fab shop around and bring in old...
Well, i did an oil change on the transmission and transfer. They were both waaayyy to low and gunk. Trany wasn't shifting and the teeth are a bit torn up. Finally got it shifting again, lube helped a lot. Started it and it was running fine, coughing because the carb needs new seals. Then a loud...
Well, i got the new radiator and the engine runs like a charm, All the electrical system checks out, What a relief that all the lights work. Got my new gauges and batter box top as well. I also refurbished my wipers, they look like crap but run like new. Also stripped the body of hardware so i...
LoL love the steel diamond plate cluster. IN that first pic is that you bondoing or last owner ? Looks like a nice little project, much rust (doesn't look too bad) ? Nice how you have decent tires, glass, and seats already, witch 4 matching rims. Also when looking for parts to save some money...
