    5Ton Dump Question

Not at all. Even at idle it sends her up with no hesitation. I usually have the loader fill the bed with gravel at the front (to avoid spillage out the back when going down the highway)......and with 10 tons....never been a problem. These trucks are built solid! Not sure on going 5-8...

    5Ton Dump Question

Did a whole bunch of loads today at close to 10 tons per. The M817 is a fantastic truck. The only shortfall I see is the juice brakes. The 939 series have air brakes....a safer system in my humble opinion.

    5Ton Dump Question

I've hauled a good amount of gravel/sand with my 817. It holds right up to 10 tons without sides. Anything more (especially off road, where these trucks were made for 5 tons) might push it's limits.

FMV Plate Bill Introduced in Illinois

Thank you Ma Deuce!!!! You made this happen for all of us!! I went and applied for the the FMV plates today and completed the process. The Libertyville DMV is now a "christened" FMV plate issuing facility (after 2nd try). When I went in, they had absolutely no idea what I was talking...

Battery switch on (heater fan, lights work) no gauges or engine crank?

I have the exact same issue. I picked up a PCB and plan on putting it in this weekend (I'll let you know how it works). Does your ABS light come on also?

where are all the wisconsin trucks at???

Elkhorn. I read about "Poofstock" last year (about 55 miles north of me).........if he holds it again, I'm in (bringing the M817). It's a WI event that I've read raves about (September or October I believe). Hey.....is your M1070 licensed? I would love to see that 2 stroke diesel!

How are we going to get an M105 off our car trailer? No Problem!

It's an old Galion 150A, 15 ton. I've got most of the leaks repaired (was testing the outriggers, just resealed all four). There is still a leak in the boom crowd cylinders (those may beyond my capabilities) and a shaft seal on the Detroit diesel (453N). I was hoping not to have to pull...

How are we going to get an M105 off our car trailer? No Problem!

I've been refurbishing a non-green diesel toy (2 stroke diesel).......and needed a reason to test out the hydraulic repairs. We picked up this M105 at Ft. McCoy last week. Having fun!

    Wire gauge

I used welding wire I picked up at Tractor Supply....two 36 foot lengths (and it ain't cheap). I only needed the length once (had to slave with one truck behind the other vs. next to each other).

    M939 adding a snow plow frame/hoist

If you have the plow mount (frame hoist).......you're almost there. If angling the plow isn't of issue, then a single acting lift cylinder and hydro pack would do the trick. I think you could make that happen for under $500. Here's a post I submitted last fall...

Driving 5-ton with parking brake on...

I've done the same with my M817. I adjusted the tension with the handle, then climbed under the truck to adjust the brake arm.....simple adjustment. Check to make sure you have plenty of pad left, though its unlikely you've done any real wear. I always double check now....easy to forget its on.

5 Ton, super single, road side tire change done safely......

I keep the spare at the farm (can load it on a trailer with bobcat, then bring to truck if needed) for the local gravel hauls I've been doing. I've man handled the G177's on my 925 without a major issue, though the 16R20's on my M817 is similar to the 1400's....HEAVY. The only "portable" way...

5 Ton, super single, road side tire change done safely......

I'm sure this has been done, though how do you change a 500-600Lb tire on the side of the road (16R20)? I spent a good hour going through our site and couldn't seem to find a thread on this. I'm prepared with an engine hoist, 20 ton bottle jack, 4x4 cribbing, air hose with glad hand, 3/4"...

Count me in Artisan for a set of those sweet brackets. I have the set up from Dell......planning on installing this spring. Thanks as always.

    Help with M817 transmission diagnosis?

Thank you for the insight. I responded from experience, not understanding the technical breakdown of the transmission. How do you downshift without waiting for the trans to synchronize? I did a lot of driving for gravel in my M817 and was not able to down shift until the trans synchronized...

    Help with M817 transmission diagnosis?

Double clutch is the way to go. I don't believe these old transmissions had synchroniztion. No down shifting possible (god knows I've tried).

Can someone identify the pipe and the paint?

I believe the storage area is for the 3 grounding rods (3 foot lengths). The paint that matches is Rapco 383 (though you can buy it from many venders or get it matched at an auto paint supplier).
