    taboo to talk

I have no plans of ever owning a HMMWV. The only way I'd even think of buying one is if it was running well steers and stops straight, no major dents in the body panels, no major components missing, the price was under $5,000, and it had a 100% free and clear legal on-road title. If my wife...

    Is this a good deal?

riggermedic: Rustystud is an amazing resource here. He knows a lot about rebuilding TH400's. He may be able to help you find a reputable transmission repair shop. Send him a PM and ask him what he thinks. :-)

    Survival 109 build

Come on down to Central Florida, Jericho! You'll quickly learn that sweating is done year round. Outside air temp was HOT earlier this week. 83 with 80% humidity on January 2nd and 3rd. A cold front finally pushed through, dropping the temperature into the 70's during the day and 50's at night...

    Survival 109 build

I agree with Scott. Snow is a four letter word... :naner: The blizzards of '77, '85, and '93 in large part convinced me to escape the white wrath. Orlando meteorologists have NEVER uttered the phrase 'lake effect snow', and they never will.

    Operation Mighty Mite Miracle

I'll post the pictures on your Non MV thread. The current set of white walls are yellowed from age. The new set is nice, bright, and pure white. I can't wait to see them on the car! I have a feeling she'll ride, steer, and stop a lot better with new bias ply tires on all four corners. Softer rubber.

    Operation Mighty Mite Miracle

Finish the bends, then make another one just like it. The last picture is the finished product in place. :-)

    Operation Mighty Mite Miracle

The boot clips that Bensinger sent wouldn't work. Doc, irked but highly motivated, made his own. First, go to True Value where all the good auto parts are. Buy some piano wire. Good spring steel and make a couple of bends....

    Operation Mighty Mite Miracle

I agree. This Mite will be in better shape than it was on the day it rolled out of the factory. :-) As a side note, I bought 6 new whitewall tires for my Model A. Hopefully this upcoming Saturday will be a dry day (the forecast is showing 100% chance of rain right now). He wants to help me...

    Operation Mighty Mite Miracle

Doc finished the axle boots, axles, and tie rods.

Considering a M927 or M928 to live in...

I learned this lesson the hard way. I bought a basket case for my first MV because it was in my price range and I was bloody desperate to park a green machine in my garage. If I would've had a couple ounces of patience and saved another $3000, I could have bought the other (MUCH NICER) jeep that...

    Operation Mighty Mite Miracle

Another update from Doc: Tie rods removed. The Mite must have hit a few tree stumps in its time. auaauaaua Rods are little bowed. I needed a little help with some heat to remove the adjustment bolts and straighten the rods. Finished the rods with new boots. The adjustment sleeves are fully...

    Desert Storm water carrier?

I have a period correct Desert Shield/Desert Storm soldier impression, and I use my M1009 as part of my display. I've seen that picture during my research of M1009's used in Operation Desert Storm. I'm also curious as to how the cans are mounted to the side.

Speed vs RPM for the M1009 6.2 diesel?

You won't have a problem pulling 4500 lbs with your M1009, as long as you keep the speeds in the range you plan on running. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?93401-M1009-Towing/page2 Post #11 & 12 have pictures of my hitch setup. I have a Class III bead welded and bolted underneath the...

    Operation Mighty Mite Miracle

I ordered 6 Dorman 13563 rubber tie rod boots on Tuesday. They should arrive on 12/20.

    Operation Mighty Mite Miracle

From Doc: These are the hub stops that were missing. One had no stop nut and was welded. Ugh. I didn't see until I was cleaning. aua I ground the weld down and re-tapped. Couldn't save the bolt. There have been some casualties in this rebuild.

    Operation Mighty Mite Miracle

From Doc: I did some wiring just to do something different. Here are the before and after photos of the main harness that mates to the headlight harness. The wires were a bit frayed so I replaced about a ten inch length back to the good insulation under the tape. I installed the new brake light...

    Eventful 5 Ton Recovery

I installed LED tail lights shortly after I bought my Model A. The olive drab paint, although semi-gloss, causes the car to be eerily similar to a military vehicle at night. It essentially disappears. The LED tail lights help substantially. If I'm making a long trip at night, I hook 3 amber...

M1010 for my daughter the field biologist

A half gallon jug of NO OX will last you 8 consecutive lifetimes!! :-D  8) A little goes a LONG, LONG way!

Considering a M927 or M928 to live in...

71DeuceAk - I'm a bit concerned about how you would effectively insulate any portable dwelling against -40+ temperatures. You need walls, ceiling, and floors thick enough to provide space for the insulation. The increased size will increase weight and decrease living space. Have you consulted...
