    Magnetic fire extinguisher mount

I like the bracket you built! :goodjob: Did you use the 75 lb capacity magnets from Harbor Freight?

    Survival 109 build

:shock: OUCH!!!!!!!:shock::shock::shock::shock: That sounds PAINFUL!!!! While we're on the subject of 'lessons learned in regards to eye protection', I have one more anecdote. NEVER NEVER NEVER hit an Allen wrench with a hammer without wearing safety glasses and holding onto the...

    Survival 109 build

Looks great, Scott! I would like to make one suggestion. Buy or borrow one of these to clean up the shavings. http://www.harborfreight.com/22-inch-magnetic-floor-sweeper-with-release-98399.html Those metal shavings can easily penetrate skin without you even realizing it. Digging out metal is...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Tinstar - 10 tubes of NO-OX will last you about 5 lifetimes! I have 2 tubes, and I doubt I will ever empty them. A little of that stuff goes a long way. :-)

    My 1986 M1010

I have a set of Duratrac's on my M1009. I really like them. They were well worth the investment! They have great wet and dry traction, and they wear well. You hear a pleasant hum from them at 45 MPH +. :-)

So I want to buy a HMMWV.....

I agree with tage. A $10,000 budget isn't much to allow for a HMMWV. 10K can buy you a really nice Deuce (or two depending on condition), a 5 ton, 2-4 CUCV's (depending on condition), 2 M274's, a M561 or two, etc. Is this your first military vehicle? If so, you might want to consider finding a...

So I want to buy a HMMWV.....

Welcome to Steel Soldiers!! :-) I rode in a July 4th parade in a friend's HMMWV. He didn't have the insulation on the tunnel. Air temperature was 93 degrees. Engine temperature was 185+. My feet were ROASTING in the passenger front seat. I advise you, regardless of which model you purchase, that...

M1010 for my daughter the field biologist

jpg - Time and time again, you have proven that you know how to read TMs, follow directions, and improvise solutions to complex problems. All of those skills help in the kitchen. A recipe is a framework. The ingredients are your 'consumables'. The pots, pans, spatulas, and spoons are your tools...

Ahab - I like your idea! What is the decking material on pontoon boats made out of?

Found out torque wrench is not accurate *after* rear main seal job

I have a cheap Hazard Fraught torque wrench. I don't use a torque wrench often enough to justify dropping the coin on a Snap-On. How can I calibrate my piece of junk torque wrench?

    Loose door lock

I understand. If I were you, I'd want to make darn sure I had the right parts coming to me that could fix my problem.

    Loose door lock

Sam27 - I just want you to know that CUCVRUS is a good man. He stands by his word. I trust his advice completely. He only sells good parts. Junk or worn out parts end up in his scrap heap. :-)

    M1009 4BT swap!

Thank you, Warthog! :warthog: That makes sense. The pictures really help describe what's actually changing, and how the engine mounts have to be modified! I get the impression that it would be even more expensive to fabricate an adapter plate that has two separate bolt patterns - one to mount...

    M1009 4BT swap!

I've never swapped any engine into any vehicle. Could you please explain to me why you have to tilt the 4BT at 5-7 degrees? What is a GM 10 degree clock adapter? Why is is the adapter set at 10 degrees?

    M1009 4BT swap!

I think your project is a pretty cool idea, especially if your M1009 has a dead engine! :-) I have one question. You mentioned that if you want more speed and HP out of an M1009, you have to dump a lot of money into it. I agree completely about the HP - 130 isn't much. As for speed, I regularly...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Congratulations on passing the Extra class license exam!!! :-) Upgrading from Tech to General is on my to-do list. I barely use the Yaesu FT-78000 that I installed in my M1009. I turn it on once a month just to make sure it still works. I still check in to the local ARES net every Monday night...
