What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Rebuilt or remanufactured is always a gamble. My '68 Nova had eight carbs on it before the parts counter guy finally told me I could get a new one for only $20 more (in 1981ish). It got to where I could swap them out with my eyes closed. When I was flying Starlifters we would sometimes be...

I ordered a set of two from amazon. Maybe I'll get lucky and the key they send me will work in the ignition and rear window lock. If not I'll have two keys.

    Glow plug Test

This is what I've done. The only 24v on my truck right now is the starter, the landing lights, inverter, and the go-light spotlight.

I'm looking on rockauto and they sell the locks, but not sets. I want everything keyed alike like it is, but I don't want to dissemble a new lock and swap tumblers around.

Age and use. Looking for replacements right now. Do the auto parts stores stock them in black?

Yikes. I can't help but think it would have been faster and cheaper to pull the green wire off the IP.

The rain finally stopped so I was able to get under the hood and attack the cracked power steering pump bracket. Out here in WA, it's warm in the winter when it's raining, but once the clouds clear off it gets freaking cold; so I bundled up. I suspect the cracks are from the stress caused by...

I gave the HF pulley puller kit a whirl in the garage this afternoon on the spare pump/bracket. The right tool makes the job a lot easier! Hoping tomorrow I can get a break in the rain to swap the spare bracket into the truck and get it back on the road. I'll get the cracked one welded again...

    Steering Pump Puller

Yikes, the fleet is down to one operable vehicle! I need to get the power steering pump pulley off; will this set from HF work? https://www.harborfreight.com/pulley-remover-and-installer-set-12-pc-63068.html

    Heat Blower Bogging the Electrical?

Yes, yes there is! By some stroke of weird luck I noticed the bracket in the first picture, below, and asked what it was in another thread. This was a weird bracket facing up with a curved adjustment slot. Then I looked through the -20 and noticed it was supposed to be facing the front (not...

That may be the problem. On my truck Bracket 11 in the figure is on the pump but isn't being used. Bracket 9 is facing upwards as shown in the photo above. Bolt 7 was never installed since I've had the truck. What the heck?

The bracket in the picture is down way too low to be associated with the power steering. In fact you can see the power steering bracket in the left side of the puicture. The bracket I'm seeing is way down by the motor mount.

    Heat Blower Bogging the Electrical?

It just keeps getting worse. The bolt did not back out- it broke. I drilled it out easily without removing the pump. I had a couple bolts that fit the hole so no problem there. The bracket is cracked... AGAIN. This time it cracked at the center slotted adjustment hole. Right now only one...
