What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Mine was the same, except that little pointer on the column tries to rip my thumbnail off even still. Mine never got much easier either- some days it pops right into ACCY and some days I have to wiggle it repeatedly.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

When I was a single guy living in the barracks on base at Travis, I owned two fords (old maverick and mustang II). I had the hardware store cut a new key with the maverick pattern on one side and the mustang pattern on the other. So one key would work the doors, trunks, and ignitions of both...

CUCV Ignition Buzzer while heating plugs

The buzzer you're hearing is the seatbelt buzzer, it's just a coincidence that it times out with the glow plugs. Mine does the same. Buckle the seat belt and try it.

Can anyone back up a M101?

When I worked jet engine test cell, getting the very-long TF39 (C5 Galaxy) engine trailer into the somewhat narrow cell could be challenging, especially since it needed to be placed within a very small area so that the hoist could lift or lower the engine. The tow vehicle we had was a Ford...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Still a mystery. Its gruesome death was NOT caused by the M1009 after all. I retrieved the security camera footage and he's clearly there long before I left for the morning. I backtracked to around 2am when he appears, dead in the grass, but going back a little more there's nothing captured...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Expecting rain so didn't ride the bike to work, and fired up the M1009. Later in the day my wife emailed me saying there was a dead rat in the yard, looking like it came out on the losing end of a fight. When I got home I noticed it was centered between the wheel marks in the grass just...

Can anyone back up a M101?

There are two possibilities that you're having problems with it; 1. You suck. I know it hurts, but none of us are born with the ability to back a trailer. It comes easier to some, and as mentioned you will get better, but it can be a long road getting there. I went from suck to mediocre at...

Sending unit? Gauge? Fuel needle confusion...

The TM has an excellent troubleshooting process for this issue. I followed it and found I needed a new gauge.

    1986 m1009

I'm not sure how we started with the transmission. If the whining is heard while in Park, start by checking the things that are turning when the engine is running, like the alternators or power steering pump. It's a lot easier and cheaper to pull the belts off and run it for a few minutes...

I want a flat black painted CUCV (like the two that I saw on the way home from work)!

I would like to paint over my cammo and make mine tan. I was involved in Desert Storm from beginning to end, flying combat support and regular trash-haul missions into various airfields. The only time in my career I ever drove the M1009 was in Riyadh, one of the ground support guys let me baja...

Whos installed HAM Radio's in CUCV's

They're aluminum from home depot- in their bulk metals section near the hardware. I think about 1" wide, or slightly less. You have to go slow when bending them because the aluminum will want to crack. I suppose you could heat it up with a torch. I just cut them to length, bent them in the...

Whos installed HAM Radio's in CUCV's

I also prefer a long antenna, the longer the better. But, I also like to keep the antenna, not lose it to low branches and such. So I keep a few in the truck- long ones for when I need more reach out in the sticks, and the compact one for around town and in the dense forest. This forum thread...

Whos installed HAM Radio's in CUCV's

1.5 is <2:1, no? I have experienced that the antenna works, and I get good signal reports. 110 watts is helping I'm guessing. ;) It's also the only dual band 'transit' style antenna of which I'm aware. I think 45° would hit the window.

Whos installed HAM Radio's in CUCV's

The radials were inspired by the Compactenna, like this one which is the antenna that usually sits on top of the riser. They suggest radials at 70° which is pretty steep. For the wire antenna I was using an inverted pan I picked up at walmart and painted. More of a flat ground plane.

AntennaClimber or Technoweenie are your SMEs, maybe a few others. Here's mine. Would like to do a 10 meter radjo but haven't sourced the proper mil antenna yet. Currently have two Orions, one VHF and the other UHF, and a dual-band antenna.

    Military "CB" Radio

Aircraft radios will be AM and often SSB, if you can find one.

    Spacers to Raise the Seats

I found two seats in a wrecking yard, some kind of chevy van, and they raised me up about two inches. The front bolt holes lined up with the holes/nuplates in the floor too. I had to drill the rears though. The bonus was they adjust and recline. The first pic shows the arm-rest removed...

What did you do to your trailer today.

That's a constant problem (no, not the consistent misspelling of brakes); people believe these trailers are meant to dump. I've seen people on craigslist mention it as a selling point, and received criticism from another trailer owner because my M1101 doesn't have the dump feature.
