Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Negative, no seal puller. Everything ive been reading just says “pry the seal” so I figured I’d cross that bridge when I get there. Didn’t realize there was a special tool required. I will go pick up a seal puller from the store now. Can you show me a picture of the type I’m looking for...

i could probably also drill a hole through the white end cap and thread the installer bolt through it. I will take a look at that shortly. right now I just got the area cleaned and I’m ready to remove the old seal. What’s the best way to do that? thanks

Ah yeah that’s a really nice solution. The ken Moore tool referenced in the TM to install the seal looks to be like some kinda tapping tool so that’s what I was envisioning in my mind, but yeah that could be designed for a motor out of a truck or something. I may have to rig something up like...

Man, I can’t even begin to express how much I appreciate you doing that for me. I did not expect you to get it done so fast and am blown away, man. Seriously thanks so much. Things are a little bit better today over here. Ya know everyone’s going through their own stuff and sometimes it’s...

Yeah, I'm not going to mess with the key--it's in there good. And thank you so much for helping me man, it really means a lot to me.

Thanks for all the info! Now I see why an old post on here recommended cleaning the area while the balancer was pulled about an inch out. Well too late for that now. I’ll just have to be careful not to get anything in there. I have a gear wrench balancer installer coming tomorrow that has...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Trying to keep working through the negativity surrounding me. I went ahead and got the rear diff cover mounted. Had to do some grinding to the brake line bracket on the right to make it fit with the thicker cover. Also had to put the bracket on the left onto the Vice and adjust the bend on it...

I’m just hesitant to do that because I’m worried that if I take on that job and end up messing the alignment up worse than it is then I’ll really be screwed. The truck does track fairly straight when letting off the wheel on a smooth road so I don’t think it’s that bad. Everything I got in the...

Got the seat back in the truck. It’s pretty damn comfy! I’m gonna go pass out now lol

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Diff cover went on without a hitch. All bolt holes lined up nicely. I used the Allen head bolts that came with the cover but I got some grade 8 3/8 lock washers from the store and used those instead of the ones that came with the cover. Lube locker gasket for the rear will arrive tomorrow and...

I got the seat done. Learning how to do the hog rings was a bit of a challenge especially with the cheap pliers that came with the kit. The indentation smoothed out but you can still see the marks in the grain. The piping in the center also doesn’t line up perfectly, even though the edges are...

LMC refunded me for the seat cover and told me to keep it.. I will see if I can salvage it and get that indent out as good as I can. They told me I was SOL on the $35 shipping charge though… probably the last time I order anything from them.

Yeah I hope so man. Because the guy kinda gave me a bad vibe and didn’t seem to even care after I handed over the money. There are two owners of that business and one handles the starters and the other handles the alternators. I had a really good experience with the starter guy. But I...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

I just got the alternators back.. they look pretty good but when I was checking them out one of them had a squeak when spinning the pulley. I asked the guy about it and at first he said it was the felt that’s pushed against the bearing and it will wear down. I took it out to the car and played...

Also, how much gear oil should I pick up at the store to fill both axles?

Nevermind, I went ahead and ordered the lube locker gaskets. I see that they are superior and have a bead on them to make a good seal. I’d rather wait a couple days and use better stuff. I will take the felpros back. Thanks!

Ok great. The factory stuff was stuck on with silicone and that’s great and all but makes for a real chore in pulling them off for the next time. I hit them with the robloc disc really lightly to clean off all the crud. They’re pretty clean now. Should I be able to use the felpro gaskets the...

Awesome, thanks! I edited my post right before you responded to ask about the diff covers. You recommend gasket and RTV or just RTV alone?

Still waiting on parts so I decided to get the diff oil changed out. The rear diff had a small leak, too. Any recommendations on gear oil? I bought these new covers last year when I first got the truck. I’ll finally get to put them on now! I got the felpro gaskets but should I use them in...
