Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Thanks for the tips! What shocks did you go with? I was looking but couldn’t decide what to go with.

Here’s a shot I took last night of the truck with the brand new LED headlights installed. I was going to get the trucklites but I’ve already spent too much money lol. They’re just some $79 lights from Amazon. They’re supposedly DOT approved and they’re very bright. My front marker lights...

Yep lol. Once I figured it out I felt like a real bone head. This whole thing has been quite the learning experience.

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Ok so I was getting frustrated with the power steering belt and thought the 7450 was too tight to fit. I ended up going to the store and getting a 7455 and 7460 and they were both way too loose… so I calmed down and reassessed what I was doing and figured out I was just going about putting the...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

I got everything reassembled and was fitting the belts when I realized that the Gates 7450 was way too tight for my power steering. (EDIT: read ahead, I was wrong. The 7450 fits fine.) There was a thread on here where someone went to Fort Brag and said he saw the proper belts for the M1008s...

I have a new kyb damper and also poly sway bar bushings, but no shocks yet. I’ll put them on after I get it running again.

Just checked the cucv torque spec cheat sheet and didn’t see anything about the crank pulley bolts. How tight do you guys torque those? Thanks, and sorry for being annoying just wanna do everything right.

Well boys, looks like we got a shiny new harmonic balancer installed! I ended up just using assembly lube in the inside of the balancer and on the crank shaft, and also on the rubber seal. Got it pressed on then installed the bolt and torqued it to 200ftLbs. Also added just a hint of blue loctite.

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

I took a page outta @chevymike ’s book and drilled a hole through my contraption and used the balancer installer through it. Pressed the seal right in! I guess the red coating around the seal is a Teflon and that acts as the lubricant/sealer when installing it. I just pushed it in dry and it...

Im about to install the new seal. Do I press it in dry? I know that I want to lube the rubber inner part but what about the outer ring of the seal where it meets the motor?

The new balancer showed up today. Definitely looks way better than what was on there but it has a few marks/scratches on it and the rubber is a little wavy and wrinkly looking. How does it look to you guys? The guy I got it from said he purchased it from HPG. Is it maybe just old surplus and...

Yes the original switch was a singer. I tried messing with it to try and get it to start clicking again but it was toast.

Alright I got her in, installation was a lot easier than getting it out for me. For future reference there’s two fasteners holding the switch on. The one closest to the steering wheel is a 5/16 screw, and in the rear is a 3/8 nut. It was really hard to figure it out in that awkward position...

I was luckily able to find the switch today at one of the larger Napa stores in downtown. About to try to get it installed. also found a replacement brake pedal there

Ok it ended up being 3/8 but for whatever reason only a certain one of my 3/8 wrenches finally loosened the bolts lol. You were totally correct about getting a fan in there and keeping your cool.. what a pita

I will grease the gear selector for sure. I have some Lucas white lithium I’ll put on it. As far as the headlight switch goes, what size are those god forsaken nuts? I’m trying all my small wrenches on them and can’t seem to get any of them to grab. Thanks man

I’ve got a new crank bolt for the balancer, but I was wondering if I’m good to reuse the washer? The new balancer is arriving tomorrow so I’ll probably just wait to do everything then. Today I’m planning on taking the time to fix my headlight adjusters and my high beam/reverse light switch...
