Here I go again new M1009

Nice! Love the aluminum wheels. Will you be taking it back to green?

    Another New (old) M1009 Driver

Have I mentioned how really great it is to have a working fuel gauge? No new work to report, but I did take the 1009 out to spend the night at a trailhead before a hike. I like to get on the trail before anyone else shows up and spooks the wildlife. I took a few shots of the CVT tent...

    M1008 shakes completely when braking

I'm very far from being an expert about these things, but my gut says you should check the rear wheel bearings. The added weight may have made a failing bearing worse, and bad bearings will start to bleed grease as they go.

I got the box with the door seals and new fuel gauge after work today. Before I could get to either of those I wanted to run by the self-serve car wash and check the body seals and window seals now that the roof is back on. Those all checked out good, the sliding windows will leak...

I've been posting up my progress here, but my website has more info and better pictures that enlarge if you click on them.

Wow, putting the roof-tent on the fiberglass top first was a huge mistake. I had one friend to help and it was all we could do to lift it up. I hope the seals stayed put and I have no leaks when the rain comes. http://www.topohiker.com/news/newspics/CUCV/RoofOn1.png...

GP? I'm building the 1009 to serve as a hiking and backpacking vehicle. I have a beautiful 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I'm nervous to leave at the trailhead for several days. It's great for day-hikes though. Incidents are rare, but it could be life threatening to be out somewhere without a...

    Another New (old) M1009 Driver

I got quite a bit done today. I got all the new seals installed so the roof can go back on the truck. After that I got to work installing the Solargizer. I installed the panel off the hood with rubber washers to isolate it from vibration...

    Another New (old) M1009 Driver

Busy busy busy for the last few days. I scraped the OEM seals off the bottom of the truck cap. Two down and two more to go. Today I installed the new side rails on the truck roof, which is in the garage. It's a lot easier to do with the roof on the floor of the garage. The...

M1102 from Barstow to Sacramento. Logistic help!

Doing the math in my head, which is notoriously dangerous, it appears that you're saying your receiver is only 9" off the deck? That doesn't sound right. I looked at wheel adapters and the 8-lug ones were outrageously expensive.

M1102 from Barstow to Sacramento. Logistic help!

Your local muffler shop or trailer store can make you a custom riser. I bought one made by Kitsap Muffler but I need for it to be stronger. I was pulling sharply out of a parking spot and the pintle bound up in the lunette ring, and bent the riser a little...

    Unlocking steering colume

I had a friend who would buy cars at tow yard auctions to flip and sell, and they almost never came with a key. He'd just call the local locksmith who would come out and for $40 would impression a key. It took about 15 minutes.

Now that the back is off the 1009 I need to do a few things to it before it goes back on. Prime and paint the sliding windows Remove the solid windows and replace them with sliders Remove the old seals and clean it up for the new seals Install the roof rails Install the rooftop...

    Another New (old) M1009 Driver

I got to work on the fuel gauge this morning. It never goes above ¼ tank and drops from there as I use the fuel. I disconnected the ground, the fuel gauge did not move to full, that supposedly means the gauge is bad, but I went ahead and performed the next step anyway. I disconnected the pink...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Am I allowed to post a craigslist ad link? I already learned we aren't allowed to post auctions. I just wanted to make the community aware of a good deal I saw on craigslist. Guy has a NOS half-cab kit for the K5s. I don't know the guy, and I think he's asking too much ($500) but I thought...

    Another New (old) M1009 Driver

Took the top off to change out the seals as they're all cracked and dry rotted. Since the weather is absolutely fantastic I think I'll be leaving it off for a few weeks. I have some sliders I want to install, and a rack is going on top for the roof-top tent. That will all be easier on the...

    Opinions everyone

Compromise. Pull the guts out of the doors and tailgate and swap them over to yours. That way you still have the original doors and tailgate, just upgraded to power.

    Another New (old) M1009 Driver

I had the idea that I would like to install a clock in the M1009. There isn't a clock of any kind in the truck, and I have an aircraft clock hanging around, so that seems like just the ticket. Now all I need to do is figure out where to put it. I hoped to put it alongside the...
