    Slow vehicle safety

LED is the way to go On my ex-police Harley, I mounted some LED lights on the rear box, and attached them to the brake light circuit. When I hit the brakes, they really get people's attention. Here is a link to a typical website for TIR3 lights. Whelen TIR3 Super LED Light Module # RS*03ZCR...

The Military is starting to scare me...

Sparks and hydrogen gas They don't necessarily blow up from being shorted, they blow up when a spark ignites hydrogen gas in or near the battery. When I was in high school, I bought a 1963 Ford van. The battery was inside the van behind the driver seat. I was taking the battery out to put a...

    M37 wiring options

As I look over my new 1953 M37, I see that a lot of the wiring insulation is crumbling. I don't plan on doing a full restoration. My plans are to service the brakes, seals, etc, clean it up, paint it a better color, and use it as a local occasional driver. I don't want to spend $800 for a...

New Guy Looking at M 37 junk yard find, advice wanted

I have been looking at M37's, and the cheap ones are usually half taken apart, or really rusted, or missing a lot of parts. This one doesn't fall into any of those categories. Up here in new England, it would be gone already at that price.

    I wasn't looking for an M37...

I got to crawl over it today a little more. It is really solid. Inside the battery box is solid, no holes in the corners of the floor or anywhere. There is a new master cylinder and a U-joint with a short shaft on it under the seat. I also found some kind of a winch in the bed...what is it? The...

If you could have only one CUCV...

Been a while since I visited this thread. My livestock has multiplied. I am now driving a 1988 Chevy Air Force V30 6.2 diesel 4x4...and just used it to tow home a...M37! Maybe somebody will offer me a decent M1009 for the M37...? H.

    I wasn't looking for an M37...

The inner fender wells look like shiny green paint, as well as the inside of the bed, and the bed sides by the fenders. The frame shows a lot of shiny green paint that is just one layer. The exterior has shiny green, followed by yellow, followed by the primer seen in the pictures. The interior...

Recovered (The truck)... ...now I have to recover! An hour plus with a come-along just isn't a fun way to load a truck onto a trailer. But we are home! Here are some pictures. Hal

    I wasn't looking for an M37...

Long story. Bought a 1960 Dodge D100 from a friend (Mercy buy). Was going to trade it for a Crosley wagon. The Crosley person dropped out. Sold the truck. Cash burning hole in pocket. Stumbled across a 1953 M37. It is amazingly rust free. No holes or soft spots in floors, cab, running boards...

Brought home my first Military Vehicle

If you are a pretty decent gunsmith, you can become a pretty decent MV owner/mechanic. Hey, they both work on the same principle...energy from expanding gasses to propel an object. And I am sure you have fixed your share of guns previously humped up by hackers trying to improve the 'gun with the...

    MEP-701A fan

It spins freely. If I spin it with a screwdriver while the generator is running, it slowly coasts back down to a stop. I found a spot on the black wire going to it that had some bare wire. I don't think it was touching anything though. The fuse I had put in the other day is blown. Any way to...

    MEP-701A fan

The top fan on my MEP-701A does not come on when running the generator. The one on the side does. When I got the generator recently, one of the fan fuses was burnt. I replaced it, and the wiring seems intact, and it is plugged in. Is this fan by any chance on a temperature controlled switch? The...

    Gov Liq Generator Working Ratio

Won an MEP-701A. No battery, but the battery terminal clamps were new. The hour meter showed 872.2 hours. The oil filter was marked with a date in 2009 and 872hr. There was a cup of fuel in the bottom of the tank. The oil was clean but a quart low. It had a blown fuse in the front panel, and...

    MEP-701A at Mechanicsburg

It starts right up, and I have tested voltage at the convenience outlets on the panel with a meter, and with my 1400 watt heat gun. Using the heat gun makes a slight change in engine sound, and shows around 45% to 49% load on the dial. I checked voltage at the wiring terminals inside and also...

    Big thanks to Timeline98

I want to give a big thanks to Timeline98 for picking up my MEP-7101A at Mechanicsburg, on his way to his own pickup at Chambersburg. It was a big, big help, as I was not able to get any time off from work to do the pickup. I hope I can return the favor some day! Thanks again! Hal

BIG help from a member here. Thanks! I want to give a big THANKS to Timeline98 for picking up my MEP-701A this week in Mechanicsburg, and dropping it off to me. I got to check out his new MEP-002A at the same time, and I have to say, it looks brand new! I made a dual Walmart 12v lawn tractor...

    MEP-701A battery area cover needed

Thanks to a great fellow Steel Soldier member, my new-to-me MEP-701A generator arrived today. Thanks Timeline98! Anyway, the sound suppressing cover that goes over the battery area is missing. Does anybody know where I can find one, and perhaps other MEP-701A parts? Thanks. H.
