    MEP-701A at Mechanicsburg

Lucky me, I just won the bid on a MEP-701A genset at Mechanicsburg, PA. I wasn't able to find any hours for loadout in the listing. It was a last second bid, so I didn't have time to call with loadout time questions. Does anyone have experience at Mechanicsburg? It is a time of the...

    Pop-up hardtop trailer

Look up Alaskan Camper. They have a similar setup, which used a bottle jack and think hydraulic cylinders to raise the top half. The modern ones may have gotten more high tech.

    Glow plugs

Here's a link to a thread that tells how to do it with correct tools, and how to do it without. H. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/cucv/77657-glow-plug-removal-voltage-question-m1009.html#post987182

glow plug removal and voltage question m1009

I just replaced the glow plugs in my truck. As the weather got colder, it was taking too much cranking to start. I had three swelled glow plug tips. I did not have the special tool. I needed my truck to get to work the next day, so I had to get it done. My procedure was this: 1. Unscrewed glow...

It's a good thing they didn't find any mad hornets living in there that might have got them jumping around!

Poll - Who has done the Doghead Relay Conversion

I did the relay on my 1985 M1008. Painless installation, and it starts as good as it did before I installed it, but there is a greater peace of mind factor now.

    Thanks to Veterans

Preserving and remembering the history of those who have served with the greatest sacrifice is a worthy act.

    Thanks to Veterans

I parked my WC56 on the front lawn, like I do every memorial Day. A local reporter stopped to take a few pictures, ask a few questions. Occasionally I hear a car or truck honk their horn as they go by. Hal

Does This Sound Like Vapor Lock to You?

I have heard of vapor lock when gasoline gets hot enough to vaporize in the lines, but diesel has a much higher vaporization temp, and is probably not going to cause vapor lock like gasoline would. On a side note, I have an old zero turn mower that always ran good in the heat until they started...

    CUCV-II 2000 Crew Cab

That is a really rare truck that ought to be restored as original, so it is a good thing you got it. And, chances are REALLY good that there won't be another one at any military vehicle meet you go to!

    Swimming CUCV? Saving waterlogged transmissions

Transmissions get rebuilt if needed, but he doesn't have to replace the torque converter, which I hear is the expensive part. After it is drained and flushed, the drilled hole is welded shut. My neighbor has been driving a flood recovery Volkswagen Jetta wagon for several years now with no...

    Snap-on MT480 diesel timing tool

I won a Snap-on MT480 diesel timing tool on Ebay, but it wasn't quite as mint as described. The small luminosity probe (MT161) needed to connect it to the 6.2 cylinder head was not included. Does anyone have a spare they could sell, or loan out? I could make drawings of one, and see if my friend...

    Swimming CUCV? Saving waterlogged transmissions

Reading about a CUCV that went swimming.... I know a guy that buys flood damaged cars at auction. Modern ones... He tests the computers with a battery pack that he has in his back pack that he connects to the car battery terminals. If the gauges on the dash display correctly, he is happy and...

Truck shutting off after driving/ return valve?

I admire your perseverance! When the problem is finally solved, you will have a great running truck. We will also learn a lot from this saga. Interested to see what finally does the trick. And be glad it is not a 6.5 Diesel! I went down that road, and it was a lot worse. When dealing with...

    Weak wiper motor

I had a wiper motor that sounded just like your description. I removed, cleaned, applied dielectric grease to all connection. It got faster, but not enough. I applied a good dose of electrical contact cleaner inside the wiper motor body where the gears are, and then applied some very light...
