M939 Series Protective Control Box Work Around

Can you think of any other protective switch points that could break the starter control loop? I can tell you right now that some N.C. switch is being forced open due to the differences in the 4001 control box. I'm not familiar enough with the 939 series trucks to have a mental picture where I...

M939 Series Protective Control Box Work Around

That makes no sense. So, the ABS might be locking me out? That doesn't sound right? I wouldn't think that ABS would create a system fault to keep you from starting the truck? I'm going to look at the electrical schematics to see if I can find everything that might be in play on this. As far as I...

M939 Series Protective Control Box Work Around

I've got a bad control box on my M929/A1. I knew it was the control box, but I went ahead and did some electrical tests on the ignition switch to the neutral start switch etc... There is no 566 lead to the alternator for lock-out on this truck. So, I had a spare control box WSU 4001UT which came...

    M929/A1 Spare Tire Carrier Boom?

I don't see my latest post, maybe it will show up. Anyway, the lifting eye is right there on the headache cross member.

    M929/A1 Spare Tire Carrier Boom?

I can't believe it. The answer is right there and I couldn't see it. See, that why I ask because I was about to weld up a hoist arm with a HF chain hoist. I'll still do the hoist but weld the a hook to the underside of the dump bed head cover, then I can use the hoist for a variety of things...

    M929/A1 Spare Tire Carrier Boom?

What is needed to complete the spare tire hoist etc...? There is no boom or hoist winch on a 929, just the flange plate covering the vertical tube. Do you attach the same hoist kit, or come up with something custom? Looks like a trip to Harbor Freight my be the best option. I need to be able to...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Lube Service Well, now let's go down the LO maintenance list per LO-9-2320-272-12 (M929/A1). - drain and refill the hydraulic reservoir. - check drain and top off differential oil (all axles). - grease all points GAA - oil can all points and then some with OE/HDO. - oil all axle & crank case...

    Hard Shifting Tranfer IN/OUT of high/low sometimes - M929/A1 w/Allison

Okay, so it's normal. After I asked this question the other day I went out to shift it while parked. It was smooth as ever to my surprise. I guess smooth operation depends on locking and how the gear mesh is lined up for a smooth shift. I found that shift slow and easy works best.

    Hard Shifting Tranfer IN/OUT of high/low sometimes - M929/A1 w/Allison

I searched the forum on "hard transfer case shifting" and found a lot of good discussion on the topic. Maybe what I am experiencing is normal operation, but thought I would ask the question again. I'm not sure that I am having any problems but here's how my truck acts when you shift from high to...

    M931 rear service air conection

Yeah, I need to try my 1" impact to see how effective it is without a larger air reservoir.

    M931 rear service air conection

Thanks! I'll test it out. I guess I can add a 25 gal auxiliary tank on the emergency side if needed. Does it need to be isolated at the end with check-valve and manual cut-off valve? Of course, don't want it to interfere with emergency brake reservoir. I'll be looking a the TM air schematic, but...

    M931 rear service air conection

I think I might be having this problem? I want to use the service side air to run some air tools. The valve is open but no air? So do you have to have the brake peddle pressed to release air? I think I tried that, but no air. If so, do I need to create some type of AUX bypass to make a constant...

A real nice Army General Mechanic’s Tool Kit

Go to Harbor Freight. You can put the same thing together for $150.00. And... if it gets ripped-off, you just go buy it again.

Needing M929/A1 hot water heater core replacement

Anyone have a suggestions on a heater core replacement other than mil-spec original? Maybe someone has tried a rear passenger heater core from a Suburban or other vehicle? Sounds like my original can't be fixed, but I'm going to get a second opinion. Any ideas would be appreciated.

MEP-003A Facet Fuel Pump Electrical Lead Question (inline fuse?)

Yes, that's it! I could not find any explanation for what it was. Yeah, my pumps need a thorough cleaning. The aux pump had a bunch of rusty dry scale inside the strainer. It has probably never been used. The other primary and secondary were so dirty, I can't believe the generator even ran. I've...

MEP-003A Facet Fuel Pump Electrical Lead Question (inline fuse?)

Is this a special type fuse attach to each Facet fuel pump? I can't find any information on this part in the TM. Obviously, it is an OEM part of the Facet pump assembly. I damaged the one on my auxiliary fuel pump. They are filled with light oil. Looks like some type of explosive proof fuse to...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I got very lucky on this truck. It only had 17 hrs on it since the depot referb. I thought the engine was broke-in at 40 hours, but it keeps getting better! I have 88 on it now. I need to do an oil change. I bet you can get 8+ yards on that truck with the side-wall extensions. The dumb bed is...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I've though about building some side panels like yours. Nice!

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Well, I pulled a huge mulberry tree stump 2-1/2 tons out of the ground, no problem! Hauled off full load of debris. Last week did the cruise night thing. The week before, I packed rear bearings and changed tires over to new 395/85s. Much better ride depending on the tire pressure. 70lb seem to...
