The issue is how the Unimogs are designed to handle extreme terrain (New U500's are a whole different animal!). This is probably no news to you seeing is how it looks like you own one....The suspensions are designed extremely stiff, the drive-line more rigid (torque tubes) AND The frame more...
I think a M35A3 would make an excellent extended "adventure" vehicle (personally it think using the term "expedition" is ***!). Actually, unless you have WADS of money...I would stay away from Mogs. Don't get me wrong! They are fantastic vehicles, but have sever weight limitations and...
I friend just called me from the beach (I live right behind the Pismo dunes) and said that a Canuk buddy of his just "blew up" a Gama Goat trailer deffential. Is the anyone that might be able to dig this guy up a replacement?
What I meant was consumer off-road tires like BF Goodrich T/A's. They are designed to be deflated for rock-crawling and deep sand applications. I know there are several companies that make single and double bead lock rims and components. 9K lbs. is actually quite light, and certainly lighter...
You do understand...That the load capacity of 9200 lbs is FOR EACH TIRE! In all honesty, they are WAAAAAAAAAAY more tire then you will ever need.
Have you looked at commercial off road tires??? Chances are you will be able to get a NICE bead-lock rim and NICE off-road tire for the cost of just...
There are many private rebuild houses for non-electronic Allisons around the country. Stay away from Allison when ever possible! I not sure about MT 654's, but rebuilt MT653's were selling for $1800.00 a year or so ago (with core).
You need to call THE ALLISON GURU!!!!!!!!
Ted Keating @ TKT...
First off...THANK YOU Gringletaube for explaining the different rim profiles in the thread about putting 14R-20 tires on stock rims. For once, i have read about a mistake I was about to make before actually making it.
The final modification to Casa Azuls "extreme makeover" is going to be...
I got through re-motoring Casa Azul with a 6B and went with an Allison MT-653 ( 5 speed with locked-out 8:1 first gear) because it is strictly mechanical. Granted you don't get the overdrive gears, But if you modify the IP with 3200 rpm governor springs and a #10 throttle plate, you'll be going...
It wasn't me! One in reasonably good shape is enough of a PITA! 2 of them...NO WAY! Especially how haggared it is.
Whoever got it, PM me. I've got a few items what will help in the restoration.
I talked to Continental today and...No way!
I'm going to give it the weekend, then go about dealing with the seller to replace them with the right thing.
No, these are for putting the MPT-81's that i got from Ecoroamer Jay on to Casa Azul.
Nice to see you here...You won't be seeing much of me "over there" anymore...Too much inbreeding.
Here is a picture of 4 of the 5 wheels. Not having first hand experience with M35A3 rims...I drove 250 mile home with the wrong thing.
They looked correct...Bwaaaaaaa!
Could one of you fine folks post up a picture of the rims size nomenclature on a M35A3 Rim???
I drove to Barstow on Friday and bought 5 rims that I thought were correct. when i got home I realised they were 20 x 7.5 .
I need the picture to show the seller what the correct rim should be...
My guess is that the truck has "gremblins". Otherwise (given the economy) it would have not been CUT out of service.
Not that I know anything about FMTV's with "gremblins"
