    Direct vs. Gear Reduction Starter

I am currently in starter replacement mode for M1008 and this thread sounds like good info hashing I want to get in on--- Agreed--- the 28MT seems a better design no doubt but try to get one that is NOT either made or re-manned in China--- junk just I won't buy if I can help it--- good luck on...

Never saw this info before regarding 28MT starters

Thanks for that info Mr. D, and not real sure if I'm asking the right question here, but...if the DH relay itself is (I believe) rated for the recommended 200 amps then the wiring and connectors involved in that same circuit should also be 200 amp capacity? Just asking, not trying to make a big...

Never saw this info before regarding 28MT starters

Bumping this thread because I am currently in starter replacement mode for my M1008. Was hoping to replace my original 27MT with 28MT and rebuild old starter on later date. Then I find this Delco service bulletin posted. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you read the entire paragraph (NOTICE)...

    Steering and Front Axle Rebuild.

Bravo----BRAVO!!!!! Great write-up Iceman, this is one of my top priorities for the near future. And hey--- nothing like the solid feel and sure satisfaction of a newly rebuild front end I say!

    Check your balencer

Me thinks that along with the doghead relay mod, replacing the damper is a must-do if you want to avoid mucho problemos. Only I wonder bout the FluidDampr fit inside the CUCV engine bay. Check it out: picked up a brand new NOS genuine GM damper on eBay a few months back... maybe the guy has a...

    Big Thanks to Will Wagner!

Yep, I can vouch too: Will is a darned helpful, courteous, knowledgeable guy, not to mention EXCELLENT host, as witnessed by wife and my self's brief visit to DirtBag last spring. Let's keep this thread at the top!

Figuring out new sound...here we go...LOL.

Hey, have you looked at the harmonic balancer lately? Many a fellow here have told tales of great sadness when that thing goes out of whack and it can be an engine-killer for sure. On my second year of CUCV ownership and up here in the high desert it gets plenty cold, like in the low 20's. When...

Non "Made In China" parts list.

As much as we all may hate it, this is a politically charged issue. And it should be pointed out that we only have ourselves to thank for this situation. I well remember back in the early 1980's when nearly EVERYONE was buying up those cheap, little Japanese Toyotas and Datsuns like they were...

Non "Made In China" parts list.

If I can find made in USA part I will buy it regardless of extra cost. This I have done for decades and from my personal experience of fixing up older vehicles, I will say this with confidence; the Chinese junk is practically GUARANTEED to be of inferior quality and useful life of the part will...

    Shifting issues

Crawl under your truck on the driver-side and look on the side of the transmission case. You will see a wire plugged into the side of case. Unplug the wire and test drive the truck: did it shift to 3rd now?

    Glow Plug Removal Tool

Wonder how that came out for you? By now--- all well I hope! When I did my 4 stuck plugs I used WD-40 and even some 30 wt oil squirted inside the pre-chamber just to hopefully, help the little buggers along. One thing though, the plugs didn't have overly swollen tips or I may have had same probs...

    DirtBag Fall 2011 ???

Well it's official--- our DB mission is scrubbed for fall. Got the call-out from a guy I promised to work if he got a gig... how's 30 miles NW of Taft grab ya'? Carriso Plain? (sure ruined my Sunday) We'll be setting up rig this Fri/Sat then turning to the right by 10/20... that is the...

Close call today - forklift accident

Seroiusly though--- glad there were no injuries. (other than pride) But I might also add that carrying boom sections with forks is do-able if you take EXTRA EXTRA good care and don't ding lacing or cord. In Cali here, that will get you not only fired but crane certification will NOT be issued by...
