What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Fixed the speedometer. Cable just had to be pushed back in under the dash. Works fine now. Got the horn working. When I got the truck the horn was unplugged. When I plugged it in, it wouldn't stop. Had to remove the diode from behind the horn relay. Horn fixed. No problem thanks to this site...

    M1009 To Buy or Not

I think that's an "O" ring. There are a few "O" rings and gaskets that can be replaced without tearing the pump apart, but not sure which ones offhand because I usually reseal the entire pump. That diagram looks scarier than it actually is. If you can put a carburetor kit in, you can reseal an...

    M1009 To Buy or Not

The pump will have to be removed to reseal it. I buy the kits at a local diesel repair shop. Here's a writeup on resealing a VW pump to give you an idea of what's involved. VWDieselParts.com :: View topic - VE injector pump assembly pictures. . The attached picture is the kit for the 6.2.

    M1009 To Buy or Not

I would reseal the pump, then if it has a problem, replace it. You're only out 20 dollars plus your labor if it doesn't work out. I've resealed lots of pumps with success. Why throw money at a problem that may not exist?

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Did the doghead starter relay mod on the weekend. Now gotta fix my speedometer. It worked fine for 5 mins after I got the truck, then the needle went crazy and fell to zero.

    doghead starter relay modifcation

Doghead, I bought the ford relay at a starter shop. I did this after I couldn't locate a solenoid locally with 5/16 posts. No idea which vehicle it fits. I asked the guy for a ford solenoid, and he asked me one or two post. Both had a grounded mount. I used a diode to help prevent damage to the...

    doghead starter relay modifcation

Good point. Good enough to make me change my mind and install a ford solenoid. Much heavier then either of the lawn tractor ones. I had to relocate it, and isolate the grounded mount, but that's no problem, lots of room under the dash. Now I can relax when I start my truck. Glad I read here...

    M1009 To Buy or Not

If the engine is running fine the pump just needs to be resealed. Cost you about 20 bucks for the kit. If you need a pump, you can get a good used one for less than a $100. A rebuilt one can be had for around $300-$400.

    New (to me) M1008 CUCV

Thanks, That's the only pic I have of the hitch. I'll take some when I get it. I gotta pic up a bridge plate and the cover for the slave connection. I doubt the frame braces are there for the pintle hitch either, by looking at the pic I have.
