    m813 speedometer

Upon further inspection, I notice the cable only goes into the speedo as far as the screwdriver tip. i pushed it in hard and something popped and it now goes in fully and engages. It appears to be worn on that same spot, so it must have been like this for a long time.

    m813 speedometer

As far as i can tell it is round to the bottom. It looks like there may be a very slight square indent in the bottom. I am going to try to put a little jb weld in the hole and reinstall the cable. If that fails I guess I will by a new speedo. It only reads 3042 miles.

    m813 speedometer

My speedometer never worked since i got the truck. The cable is turning if i pull it from the back of the speedo and drive. I removed the speedo and notice the cable has a square end, but the speedo has a round hole. Is the hole supossed to be square? That would make sense to me. I tried...

    m813 winch problem

And also the anti-pinch plates I only see in some photos. Looks to me that most don't have them, maybe it was optional? Or they were removed for some reason? I am going to just buy them and do it right. Also I am going to see if I can slide the roller ends closer for a tighter fit while I'm at...

    m813 winch problem

Ok so I found pics of the plates, they are shaped like a J. I guess I will fab something up. The bolts on the roller mounts don't look like the moved by looking at the paint around them. I wonder now if my winch case ends have spread, because the gap at the roller wasn't there when I installed...

    m813 winch problem

The link is not working for me. I will look through the tm again. I did google search for other pics of the winch and they looked the same to me, maybe I'm over looking something.

    m813 winch problem

So here is the problem. I installed this winch about a month ago and this gap was not there at all until I used it the first time. The cable got wedged between the roller and I couldn't get it out. At the time I was stuck and had no choice but to keep winching to get out. Well then the cable...

Is it safe to coast backward in forward gear m813?

My truck only makes this sound shifting into reverse and again back to neutral, no sound at all into or out of first. Sometimes it just continues to hiss the whole time while in reverse and i have to shift in and out of gear to make it stop. Front axle only engages in reverse, not at all in...

Thanks everyone. Yep thats the truck. I'm in the process of cutting up my old dump truck and trying to figure out how to put my hoist on my m813. I need to cash it in for scrap so I can get the rest of the money for my winch. And yes I do want a m35a2 to bob in the future.

Is it safe to coast backward in forward gear m813?

Ok thanks guys. I remember reading something but wasn't sure if it was true. Now I know, I'm just trying to learn what not to do the easy way.

Is it safe to coast backward in forward gear m813?

For example if you were trying to crawl up out of a creek bed onto a bank, but didn't make it and only got the front end over the top. Would it physically hurt any thing to push the clutch in and coast back down to give it another shot? Just want to make sure I'm not gona blow anything out if...

Is it safe to coast backward in forward gear m813?

So if the sprang gets turned backward will it hurt it? Or the transfer case? I understand the foot slipping off the clutch can definately snap parts, and should be avoided.

Is it safe to coast backward in forward gear m813?

I just bought my first MV its 1977 m813. I've read mention of not to coast backward while in forward gear. Will it break the tranfer case? I tried to search but couldn't find a difinitive answer. I also read TM-10 and couldn't find anything about it in there either, but could have missed it. Is...
