Super Single guys: where did you find innertubes

Sourced some XMLs, going to use my A2 rims. Research shows I need a 14x20 innertube and flaps to protect it from the radial tire I am installing it in. Called some local truck supply places and only place I found that carries them wants 55$ a tube, more than half what I even paid for each tire...

loud grinding type noise when making sharp turns

What will removing the hub cover ultimately tell me if it causes the noise to stop? Replace spline cover with a new one?

    Air Brake Question

what on earth was that trailer for? It doesn't look like the cargo space is more than 12-14ft long, what is 12 feet long and weighs ~14 tons?

    Dual Alts - some pics

Run at least a 4gauge to the battery from the Alt hot side, especially if you want to run a winch. It doesn't matter what size wire you have running to the winch if you only have a 10 keeping the amps up in the battery. You are in danger of overloading a 10gauge wire to the point of an...

    New whistler turbo?

Another thread had some info on the C and D block differences and among other things the D block has an updated headgasket that has two tabs that stick out a bit between the two heads visible from the outside. My block doesn't look like it has them so I am determining it is a C block. The block...

    New whistler turbo?

Using the headgasket tab method I'd say I have a C block and judging by those pictures and the sound its a C turbo. Not particularly loud but it was MFG in 84 so they might have modified it a little.

    Drivers side rear wheel stuck!

You lifted the truck changing the geometry of brake lines, and the ebrake cable. See if it is stretched and unhook it, see if it frees the wheel.

    Air Brake Question

Supply is passenger side and service is drivers, by the way. Don't forget to open the valves on both sides after you get it hooked up. If you've never used them open the valves before hookup to blow out mud and other trash. Valves are located about 6 inches back behind the gladhand fitting on...

    Best Gear shift knob

Dumb question time. How are you affixing your custom knobs to the lever? I assume the factory knob is threaded on there like 99% of shifters ever made. Welding (or gluing, if plastic) a nut with the same thread pattern in the base?

    Roof-mounted Smoke Launchers?

Be very very VERY careful not to violate any of the federal "AOW" (any other weapon, includes grenade and projectile launchers like this) laws. You don't have to mount it or load it to violate them. Also a projectile launcher on a moving vehicle is going to be a touchy subject with any law...

loud grinding type noise when making sharp turns

Will use your advice about the PTO lever when turning, thanks. Update: This is for sure not an axle/ujoint problem. When under power with the steering locked it makes the noise, clutch in or neutral while still moving with wheel locked makes no noise. I thought maybe the clutch was slipping but...

    Storm Chasing in a M35A2

ride in one in light rain, the windshield wipers are awful, the defroster (if your truck even has one) does anything but keep the windshield unfogged and the gaps in all the window seals, top, door, vent holes, ect blasts water at you. You might as well go storm chasing in a Mustang convertible...

loud grinding type noise when making sharp turns

I will check the ujoints in the AM. What is a birfield axle?

loud grinding type noise when making sharp turns

sounds comes mostly out of the floor near the transfer/ptowinch shifters. I am almost suspicious of the pto shaft to the winch doing something its not supposed to while turning. to my knowledge it does not have locking hubs.

loud grinding type noise when making sharp turns

when the wheel is "locked" to right or left (doesn't matter) or close to "locked" and you begin moving forward in any gear it makes a god awful grinding kind of noise. loudly. sounds almost like a big clutch that lost its springs but as soon as you straighten out it quits and everything is fine...

    New whistler turbo?

How do you determine what turbo you have? I'm fairly sure I have a whistler on the truck I just got but its not as loud as I would expect (it whistles, but not quite as obnoxiously as everyone says they are)

Dumb question about using gas in multifuel diesel

Just an update because I'm sure all of you were on pins and needles. Truck was still setup for multifuel. Well I went out to look at the truck today, it was optioned VERY VERY well but had some through-rust on fenders and cab corners and lots of little odds and ends that needed tied up. I felt...

    Cooling System Service

Air bubbles get worked out by running the truck while filling with the radiator cap off. Every so often a bubble will come through the cap and the coolant level will drop. This is applicable for most every car.
