    strech 816 into 819?

Jeff, One issue you may be over looking is total lenght of the vehicle. The 816 is 26 1/2 feet bumper to bumperetts. You would need to add at least 10 feet of frame to mount a 5th wheel (probably with at least one tag axle under it) behind the winch. That gives you a total lenght of 36 1/2...

Lifting safety what are you using

To do services on the wheel bearings a tire and wheel dolly is a great help. You can pull engines with forklifts, overhead gantrys, backhoes or Bobcats. I have some big industrial rollers to move heavy stuff with. A big air compressor and large impact tools are a great help for removing...

Did the Bundeswehr ever use the M35a2?

It was common for NATO troops to qualify with the weapons of other armies. I fired Expert with German weapons and proudly wore the medal on my Class A uniform until I retired. It was possible that that was what the picture showed. Just my WAG.

I just sorta jumped in with both feet,,

Welcome to the OD Greenloony bin. :cookoo::mrgreen::cookoo: You don't have to be crazy to fit in here but but it is considered a plus.rofl I picked up a deuce from Redstone for a guy from Washington last year. He and his dad drove down in a Jeep and drove the deuce back with the Jeep in...

    Alaska Convoy?

Well........if MVPA is going........why not go with them and make it a joint Steelsoldiers/MVPA adventure. The cooperation at the 2009 MVPA convention was outstanding. It would allow for plenty of planning. There are a lot of logistics involved in this type endeavor.....just like a military...

Running Hydraulic Fluid in Deuce in Winter OK?

Since the deuce is "Multi-fuel" you can just add a few gallons of gasoline per tank to prevent jelling. Any oil will thicken when exposed to sub-zero temps. Jelling occurs when the parifin (wax) in diesel fuel starts to solidify. Even in a straight diesel you can use gas as an emergency additive...

    strech 816 into 819?

You would have to loose the big winch on the back of the 816 and butcher the rear deck of the wrecker body. IMO that is one of the pluses of the 816 and by removing it you would diminish the mission capability of the vehicle. The M246 was a wrecker with a 5th wheel. It's main mission was...

Motor City Motors - another Deuce on TV

Reality shows are a way for networks to maximize their profits......they use (for the most part) unknown actors (and I use the term loosely) and pay them squat. Reality TV is more proof positive that the intelligence is being bred out of the human race.

    Question for the Deuce Bobbers

The frame is typically cut off to the owners needs/wants as to which type bed they intend to put on it. If using a M105 bed the driveshaft has to be lenghtened. I used a 8x8 factory built flatbed on my bobber and used the stock driveshaft. If you extend your frame too much you will have an issue...

    Any "mechanically unsavvy" owners?

If you don't need a cargo truck a M109 is a great vehicle......all the perks of the deuce and a hooch on the back. If you need to haul something you can always hook a decent sized trailer (I had a bolster trailer with a cargo bed set on it) behind it and carry a big load.

    WHAT DID I BUY?..WHAT IS IT?..57mm?

I GOT to start hitting the yard sales again.:-P

    Fuel problem (I hope)

Since it is a multi-fuel you can dump in a couple gallons of reg gas. Cheaper that Power Service and does the same thing. I see on the news that it is way cold up there....if you are going to drive the deuce a lot I would consider 50/50 gas/diesel.

    Any "mechanically unsavvy" owners?

While the deuce is a pretty basic vehicle that is not to say it doesn't have it's oddities and quirks. Unless you have an old school mechanic that is experienced with 24 volt systems, air over hydrolic brakes and the multi-fuel engine you might have a difficult time finding someone to do...

What do Yall think about M820 Van trucks?

The floor of a van will not make a good flatbed except for very light loads. Part if the strenght is from the walls and roof. The vans share the same chasis as the cargo trucks with (sometimes) different wheel bases and options. If you want a cargo truck find a good cargo bed and install it...
