When I was stationed in Korea (the Koreans despise the Japanese) I had a T-shirt that had an atomic blast cloud rising above a city. The caption read "DON'T START A WAR IF YOU CAN'T TAKE A JOKE".
One of the women in my unit (Signal) told me I was insensitive.
I reminded her of the Batan Death...
I picked up the deuce that he and his dad drove back to WA.
We put in two springer seats and did a complete service before they left. They towed a Jeep Wrangler back behind the deuce. That gave them a vehicle to use if they had broken down.
The issue with the A3 is that yaller motor in it...
My 816 is deadlined right now but I am planning on getting it running ASAP.
Before the engine issue I used mine mostly for hoisting and moving heavy stuff around.
The 250 Cummins is a dog as far as pulling the 36,000 pound vehicle down the road. Add a towed load and you are going slow at...
Give Ted a call at Ted's Trucks and Stuff in Dothan, AL.
I was down there a while back and he has acres of stuff.
Somewhere in all that stuff there may be wrecker parts.
He is not that far away.
Holding that much raw material in a surban area is just plain dumb.
If there was a fire it would be very hot and hard to control in the confines of a typical suburban lot.
I use scrap WVO (what it too cruddy to put in the tank) to start fires with.
If you want a hot, fast fire, boost it...
One option might be a "glider kit".
These are cabs mounted on frames and you put your own engine/driveline on.
This used to be common with Class 8 trucks but with all the new emission regulations you might end up with a vehicle with 1970's running gear and 2000ish VIN.
That might make it...
You are a sick, sick man.......it is obvious you have a terminal case of the dreaded "Green Iron Fever"........but at least you are in good company......keep posting as you go along.....we all like to live vicariously through the projects of others.
I have regular deuces and I have had a bobber.
I put a custom dual exhaust (stacks) on it and a factory built 8x8 flat bed.
I also put 1100x20 tires on it.
The acceleration was greatly improved and it would keep up with traffic on two lane roads.
It was still loud, rough riding, hard to...
When we swapped the engine in my 816 we pulled the engine and tranny as one unit.
It is a lot easier to line the tranny back up when you can do it from above.
We did not pull the winch and had no issues but if you are going to put another winch in it can't hurt.
We used a another wrecker to pull...
I turned the engine over in the tanker I am parting out today.
Haven't tried to put fuel to it yet and see how runs.
If it is a good runner it will be for sale.
PM for details.
GL is "the only game in town" as far as military surplus equipment straight from the government (with a few exceptions).
They have an exclusive contract and they (management) knows it.
If you cause them enough trouble you are removed from the process.
There are few recouses if they do this.
I...
Anything with a Cat engine in it is going to cost you money when it breaks.....that is a fact.
Everything is propriotary and with a few exceptions you are at Cat's mercy for parts.
Unlike the multi-fuel engines the Cats have electronics on them and anything electrical is a potential problem.
The...
I guess it depends on what level you deal with.
I have had almost no problems picking up stuff (a glaring exception is that goatf**k at Creekside, Ohio).
Locally, Teresa at GL Redstone is a sweetheart to deal with and has went the extra mile for me and others a lot.
My issues with the headshed...
