I hope this video posts, but I have a pretty loud rattle from the area of the alternator. Will the alt make this noise and what can I do to fix it? The belts did squeak a couple times even though the belts seem tight. Sound familiar?

It sounds like your starter solenoid is sticking on and draining the battery. Disconnect the positive cable and that should resolve the drain. If so maybe you can rebuild the solenoid? I don’t have specific knowledge of hmmwv starters so I may be wrong.
Nah you don’t need to bend much. Think like tweaking brake line a bit. Just don’t kink it.
Whole Les thing took me an hour for 1 side. Used blue rtv cause I had it but the black stuff would be better.
I did the passenger side by just removing the injector lines and bending them up and out of the way. Various hoses had to leave too.
The stamped steel cover was bent so I took some time to hammer it straight before RTV went on. Worked perfectly. I think the drivers side would be easier.
Good reading. If the oil solvents don’t work I think dilute acid would be a perfectly acceptable way to break down the bond holding the pin to the aluminum. Start weak like recommended on the muriatic acid bottle and short time (minutes). Rinse with clean water and then neutralize the resulting...
Sounds like 2 separate issues. I can’t help with the AC but i had no heat with the fan running in my M998. I had to unhook the heater core lines and flush back and forth to remove tons of rust. I also let CLR soak in the core and that fixed it. Heat works well now. Also make sure your heater...
Has anyone gotten their hmmwv registered under the new FMV law similar to antique? I have a registration due in December and was planning on registering FMV in VA.
I'm going to try and make this event for the first time in my HMMWV. I see there is mention of a range on-site. What are the rules for the range (calibers, bring your own, etc)?
When I got my M998 with the push button light switch it burned out the main power wire into plug. I re-inserted the power wire and replaced with a rebuilt lever switch and all is well. Check to see if you have power at the plug first; can’t remember the letter on the plug but there is a good...
And the temp gauge would show very hot on an engine with a bad thermostat. Sure sounds like either the TDM isn’t sending power through it when the thermostatic switch tells it to (when it is cold enough) or the switch itself is never closing once it opens.
Sounds like the Time delay module is not kicking the fan off at the right time. It could be a bad tdm or a bad temperature sensor that tells the tdm to engage. The tm has procedures to test the system.
You can test the starter by checking for 24v while the switch is engaged in the start position. 24v means you have a bad srarter (doubtful).
Next Try to eliminate one cause of no-crank at a time. I’d start with the ignition switch since it could give you all the symptoms you are having. I’d...
Resurrecting an old thread. I had some lug nuts that were very tight all the way off. Too tight as in 600 ft”lbs impact tight. I ran a 9/16 NF Tap through them and now they spin on largely by hand and torque down as they should. The tap didn’t cut any metal from the threads but did straighten...
This sounds like a bad battery connection to me. It will show good voltage but go to 0 when trying to flow a lot of amps like when starting. The lights should dim a bit but still be lit when trying to start. Either the battery is internally shorted or there is a bad connection in one of the big...
Plugged radiator would have this symptom. I once had the same on my Jeep and I backflushed the radiator with a garden hose. All manner of brown junk came out and solved the problem. I stuck the garden hose with a rag to seal it on the bottom hose connection to fill the radiator. Then I turned...
