Fan won't return to normal speed after coming on and after temp falls.

I had this exact thing happen to me on the way back from a parade today. The fan was cycling normally all day and then got “stuck” on. Then, the fan would cycle rapidly along with the familiar hiss of the Cadillac valve. Sounds like a piece of trash got stuck in the Cadillac valve and plugged...

    CV boot on HMMWV

I just went through this on 7700 lb axles on a M998. The inner joint measures 3.75” and the outer is 3.5” with a 1” shaft. I got both the Dorman 614-003 and the -002 inner. I pulled the outer joint off by hitting the center with a hammer; it popped right off. I took both boots out from the outer...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I fixed a couple nagging leaks. Valve cover had the cork gasket on a bent valve cover so I straightened it and applied RTV. Looks pretty good for a 30 yr old engine with 18k miles. Then I fixed the leaking o-ring on the transmission dipstick. No more leaks!

Clunk when shifting between drive and reverse, or vice versa

I get a little rocking back and forth when I stop quickly. I think it is a bit of driveline slack that also clunks a little. Normal?

Bad Bill for Title Military Surplus Off Road Moves to Virginia Senate

Do you mean that they can tell by the 6 digit vin? I have a 17 digit “utility truck” from AM General and I wonder if I can fly under the radar in Virginia. Sometime I probably need to transfer title to Virginia but I think I’ll wait until things cool down before trying. Thanks for all you do!

    Hmmwv overheating 220-240

I think the temperature sensor is designed to make the fan come on at 230F and off at 190F. It does this by breaking Power to the TDM which opens a ground on the solenoid valve through a relay. It could be that your system is working as designed, and your temperature gauge is slightly off. Is it...

    Tires wearing out too fast

I aligned mine with a string and a measuring tape per the TMs. They were way off in the rear. IF you have toed in or out rears then they would wear very quickly. Spec is slightly toed out in the rear and toed in in the front. Both can be adjusted with a pipe wrench on the tie rods in the...

    Driving Hmmwv in snow

One thing I noticed is the rear brake bias is such that it locks the rear brakes first in the snow. That can be interesting but controllable if you are expecting it. I also had slightly better luck in HL than H on slick roads with a couple inches. I just left Chicago so I'm glad I'll miss it!

Who has the best priced Cadillac valves?

got a used one for $20 on an auction site a few weeks ago. "untested" but I took the chance and I won.

Wire Routing Question...Tracking wires after a harness massacre

I fixed my light switch with help from the TM ohm procedure. I had several connections "broken" inside the switch depending on the position of each lever. There is some info online but not a detailed procedure. I didn't take pictures but it was pretty easy to open and repair. These are the...

Blinker & high beam indicator issue

Check the body grounds and the ground contact at each light. It is possible to backfeed other lights that are not grounded well. This used to happen to my boat trailer because of bad grounds.

    Cheap Time Delay Module replacement

I thought about direct activation but I was worried if the temp sender or the WOT sensor would carry enough current for the solenoid. Seems it will. IF these relays crap out then this is what I'll do.

    Cheap Time Delay Module replacement

My solenoid was internally shorted but I didn’t test for it. The troubleshooting TM tests the resistance in the 2 prong connector on the valve, mine was shorted and it blew TDM. What I would do is supply 24v to the valve directly; I plugged the male end of the 2 wire valve plug into wire 583 in...

    Cheap Time Delay Module replacement

I know this is not OEM but after blowing a brand new TDM due to a solenoid issue I thought I would try something different. (I fixed the solenoid first) I used two 24v relays to supply a ground signal to the solenoid valve when either the temperature sensor or wot kick down sensor is energized...

Something Leaking behind front driver side tire

With inboard brakes, do you have any brake fluid in that area? If gear oil, has anyone seen a plugged vent line cause pressure to build when hot and leak like this? Could it be simple enough to blow out the vent line before tearing into it?

    Soft Doors

I used Mothers 07251 NuLens Headlight Renewal Kit from Walmart. Chucked the powerball into my drill and polished away. Did an amazing job and only took 5 mins per window. I also restitched with 15lb green fishing line which holds up as well. I have an extra drivers door with a crack in the...

    Humvee seat pad question

Yeah I took a chance on sportsman’s guide and they look fine to me. Not sure if these are mil spec or anything but the canvas is thick and the right color. I think I paid $30 for 2 cushions with free shipping. Seat bases are another matter. They are hard to find and I ended up making one out of...

    Humvee seat pad question

I’m not sure about the passenger front but that would be easy enough to redrill since it’s plastic.

    Humvee seat pad question

I did this exact thing and use all seat bottoms for the 4 rear seat pads. Bolt pattern is the same although the bottoms are a little thicker than backs so when you fold the seat down you have to compress to get it to lay flush. I went with the ones on sportsman’s guide and they work nicely.

Connection below windshield frame; what’s it for?

Sorry for the dumb question but what is the item in the below picture for? I don’t know what to call it so I can’t search for its use.
