Can somebody explain these letters painted on my rocker cover?

It's been too long for me to remember with any clarity, but I seem to remember our AMSA kept track of every job on every piece of equipment through the ULLS-G system. The number on your valve cover could refer to a job number, but good luck in trying to track that down as the job numbers were not...

    More Hmmwv pics

Looks like the Wright-Patterson AFB DRMO yard. There were a ton of HMMWVs that I would drool at when I would drive by this past summer. :-P Not so much these days as they have moved quite a few. It seems to be mainly 5 tons and tractors now - and trailers.

    Hi from the Florida Keys

I have fond memories of a trip I did in 2004 all the way from Miami to Key West. Quite an interesting ride it was too. I like your truck. I can't imagine there would be enough room to turn it around on one of the smaller keys but it's nice to have one anyway. :driver::doghead:

    Interesting find

Somebody maybe is going to get a neat contact truck. It doesn't seem as if it's been abused or bashed during its long service. It seems to have been parked where it is now for some time however as the vegitation is climbing the tires.

Where can I get a HMMWV?

As an earlier poster said, why not look for an H1? They are built the same as the military HMMWV but they have nicer trim and more comfortable seats. Here's a picture of one that came to Anderson, IN earlier this year. They're a lot easier to find than the real thing mainly because Uncle doesn't...

    Looking into getting a Mutt

I don't know how hard it would be to retrofit power steering on a MUTT or if it's even possible, but why would you want to? They were pretty easy to turn right out of the box with the standard steering. The M151 family did have some roll over issues, and I have a personal memory of this from my...

Military zone 2012 gostyn - poland

What a great parade with so many interesting vehicles! I would have enjoyed being there in person I think. I expect the people who came dressed as WW II German soldiers got a lot of looks there in Poland.:wink:

    VW Kurierwagen (VW 181)

Looks like an interesting project alright. We had the Thing here in the States too but only for two years 1973-74. It was not a popular model in the heartland but I believe it did better on the coasts where the kids could take it out and cruise on the beaches. I worked for a VW dealer from 1975...

Since when did the US use these?...........

I've never seen any thing like that Dodge so if it was purchased by Uncle Sugar it must have been a very small run and they weren't handed out around here. Wright-Patterson AFB uses some Dodge Ram 4x4 trucks for security duties, but there's nothing special about them. They're painted standard AF...

PLEASE be careful what you name your thread!

I occasionally pull up the Steel Soldiers web site on a Gov't computer but it has not been blocked yet (knock on wood) On the other hand, when I try to open The Forward Look website (1957-61 Chrysler Product cars and trucks) on the same computer it is blocked every time. That's a real head...

    Deep Water Question

There is another video of National Guard trucks trying (unsuccessfully) to negotiate a flooded road after Hurricane Irene. I think they are M1078s and not M35s. When your cab is completely underwater and you feel yourself start to float downstream you'll know you're screwed. National Guard...

    Interstate Driving Etiquette

I drove both 1008s and 1009s in the service in the 1980s and they will handle 60-65 mph without breaking anything. You will use more diesel though, especially in the 1008 (pick up) because of the gearing. I used an M1008 with the cargo cover (as below) as my vehicle to pick up supplies for my...

2012 SPRING DUST OFF (midwest mini rally)

Do you mean these guys? They were pretty awesome close up as well. I had trouble finding the way to get in too, but luckily I figured out that the open gate to the south of the museum was the way in. I especially was amazed to find that the owner of this museum had scored a tank trainer; I...

2012 SPRING DUST OFF (midwest mini rally)

Anderson, IN is only about 2 - 1/2 hours away from my AO in Ohio. It sounds like fun. I'm doing some work on my M880 on Friday, but I'll sure try to get there on Saturday - assuming everything goes well that is with the maintenance work. I probably won't stay overnight though. My camping days...

    Anniversary of the Doolittle raid

I was there on the 18th and saw the fly-over. The planes were on the normally closed runway on Area B but I couldn't get close enough to take pictures of them on the ground. It is my understanding that there was a static display on Tuesday the 17th, but I missed that. I didn't count them, but...

    Combat Dash Lights

Tsk! Tsk! You shoulda turned in that gear with your other TA-50 Sergeant. I'll bet your supply warrant is looking for ya.:mrgreen:

    My M880

That's a clever idea. It hasn't caught on over here yet, but it's not a difficult conversion and I have seen vehicles that are set up to run on LPG. (Mainly taxis) Good luck to you and enjoy your truck. You need to get some proper Army truck wheels to replace those chrome horrors you have on it...

    My M880

Very nice! We must have left behind in Europe a lot of equipment over the years. A 1976 Dodge W200 (M880 series) is just the old skool kind of truck you need, although I think petrol must be pretty high in cost over there.
