There is a specific reason why they don't work but I forget what it is off of the top of my head. But as an FYI there is one other type of injector, the coarse thread injector used only on 1982 Civilian models.

You can get a diesel compression gauge set from harbor freight for about $35-40. You should go ahead and put on a new filter if you haven't already. Next test all the glow plugs and make sure they are good. Then a long slow process of bleeding the fuel lines.

I think it was the military drivers that were hard on the engines more than anything... I have a spare motor with 27K miles and a rebuild sticker on the IP. How do you kill the IP in 27K miles?
Also, you can stuff the 1/2 ton axles into the 1 ton without modification by just prying the leaf pack into position if your only goal is to keep it rolling. I wouldn't do that if you plan to put it on the road, but it would be fine for rolling around the driveway.
If you don't have starting problems after a day or two I'd guess your rig has been converted to 12V. But, if you take a look at how your batteries are hooked up you can tell at a glance. Positive to positive and negative to negative is 12V. Positive on front battery to negative on rear battery...
If the tranny fluid is low, it is going to do damage to the tranny quick so that needs to be corrected first. After that you can start troubleshooting further if needed.
You would have to change the case to get all the updates on an '83 transmission. Run the #'s off of the tranny to see what year it was, maybe he had a different core used already... you will still need to buy another core for the output shaft though. And the 2wd and 4x4 cases were slightly...
The '83 700R4 should be avoided as a starting point, you would end up needing another core anyway for all the parts your missing. Than and you want one from an '87 or later with more of the updates if you want to go that route.

That is easier said than done. The bolt patterns interfere with each other and the hub would have to be machined down for the smaller wheel center opening. Much cheaper to buy a 6 lug 14SF and move the perches to fit.

Everything connects to a hose at some point, the hard lines are already on your engine. If you decide to add the secondary filter as well would be the only reason to change the routing a little bit. I can snap some pics of how it all is setup on my '83 this weekend, just don't have time tonight...
1982-83 Chevy trucks with a 6.2L came stock with them. You can buy a wix filter to fit that base as well. In aftermarket supplies, the options are endless. Your mainly limited by what you want to spend.
