How do you check for a dead cylinder.

Crack the injector fuel line at each cylinder with the motor running. You will notice a difference if that cylinder is firing, no difference if it is not firing. Pulling the glow plug wiring will not change anything unless you are trying to start it cold... not a great way to find anything out...

    t400 to t700r4 swap

Building the 700R4 can last if your not towing to full capacity of the truck (M1008). But the wiring and computer from a '91 K30 with the 6.2L and 4L80E is stand alone and doesn't cost that much if your good at searching for the right parts. I have bought those setups in the past for less than...

    Tranny Shifts (Again)

Does the valve on the IP work? You can get them from the Chevy dealer still for about $125. You can test it manually with the truck running, just see if moving the throttle changes the amount of vacuum going through the valve. Also, check your transmission fluid and make sure it does not smell...

Fuel, Speedo and Odometer not working

Any auto parts store sells them, just ask for parts for an '85 Chevy K30 w/ 6.2L and TH400 auto. I'm sure any Chilton will cover replacing a speedo cable.

    t400 to t700r4 swap

What are you putting it in, an M1009 or M1008? For an M1009 a stock transmission can be ok, but they are not known for being reliable. There are a lot of upgrade parts available that will help them last. You will also want to change out the axle gearing as 3.07 gears will not work for the OD...

    1986 m1009

Can you restart after it completely cools off without trying the ether? I had an '84 Suburban that used to do that and it ended up being a bad fuel shut off solenoid inside the IP. It would heat soak after you shut down the motor and would not turn the fuel back on until the motor cooled off...

    6.2 to 6.5

Also, the stock 6.5L turbo will only fit in non AC trucks (any CUCV fits this category).

    6.2 to 6.5

The main difference between the turbo 6.5L and the NA 6.2L is the compression, turbo models are lower compression... and there is the IP. 1993 was the only year for a mechanical IP and a turbo from the factory. 1994 up used the electronic IP. Motor mounts and transmission bolt patterns are the...

    Clicking Problem

That is good to hear. I just pulled a flexplate off of a spare 6.2L tonight and noticed that they can be put on backwards (counterweight to the rear). That could cause some problems if someone did that.

    Clicking Problem

I'd say check for bolts that have come loose and backed out of their holes. Primarily the flexplate to torque converter bolts and transmission case to engine block bolts. If anything got in between the tranny case and engine block when you were bolting it up so it didn't sit square, it is...

    Tranny Shifts (Again)

No one said anything about getting an adjustable vacuum pump. His original post said he adjusted something between the firewall and the air cleaner... that was likely the vacuum pump which I was letting him know did not do anything to help the situation.

    Tranny Shifts (Again)

The valve mounted on the side of the IP is a common failure point. It is supposed to give you an adjustment point to mimic the manifold vacuum of a gas motor, but if it is stuck on full vacuum, the tranny won't shift right. The vacuum pump (located between the air cleaner and firewall on the...

    Master cylinder help

That is normal for these master cylinders. Every one I've bench bleed has done the same thing. Now you just have to bleed the wheels about 10 times until the soft pedal is gone. When you think your done bleeding, you double what you just did.

    M1009 Transfer case

I forgot about the full time 4x4 part... so you would need to put in drive slugs or leave your lockouts locked 100% of the time to use it. Nothing wrong with full time 4x4 if you want all wheel drive.

    M1009 Transfer case

I don't remember which side the tcase drop is on for the HMMVW. I believe they used the same TH400 transmission though, so if they drop on the correct side it may be possible to use them.

    M1028 Ultimate street AND Trail

ORD makes good parts... but I'd check out the stuff at DIY4X: Catering to those who enjoy doing it themselves. first before you buy. They have better products at cheaper prices than ORD. To top it off they have top notch service too. The NP205 is a great t-case, but it is limited in gearing for...

anyone wanna help the new guy?

You should take it in to a mechanic with a diesel timing light and get the timing set before you do any more trouble shooting. Those timing marks are only good for the stock injector pump (but close enough to get you running if you replace it).

    M1009 Transfer case

3 output shafts is true, but the NP208 version and the round pattern NP205 share the same output shaft. The other two are the NP203 version and the figure 8 NP205 version. Avoid those if you don't want to change out or rebuild the transmission. I would look for the round pattern NP205, shifter...

    Fuel filter housing leakage. CUCV

This is a common problem. If you do a search you should find what you need to fix it... or you can just go to a better aftermarket spin on style filter and never worry about it again.

    M1008 Brush Truck

I like the 37" HMMV radials myself. They tame down the 4.56 gears on the highway but you need to trim fenders and/or lift it to run them. <-- That is what I'm running on my truck.
