If I recall correctly, when the A2 family was introduced the wrecker front weight "add on" just about made up the difference in weight between the 855 and the 8.3 engines (just a few hundred pounds..maybe 500?). FWIW, it is hard to judge the weight of steel in block form (plate, bar...
I have been in the process of fabbing a front end counterweight for my M936 too, it will also double as a center pin hitch point for anchoring/pulling purposes. It should be between 1000 and 1200 pounds when completed. I have found the front to be too light on the steer axle with more than 5...
I wouldn't think you can use your return from the dump hoist valve like a "power beyond" function. You could use a diversion valve, but with an adjustable priority valve you would not have to manually change hyd. circuits. However, you would have to check flow rates for this type of...
The solenoid puts the xmsn in 5th gear/TC lock-up @1300 rpm +/- and prevents trans slippage (when pto is engaged). In this condition the pto will spin @ proper rpm for the main hyd. pump to have required flow (gpm).

The transfer HNL (high neutral low) range shifter uses air pressure to "keep" the shifter lever/shaft located in position until the button/switch on the lever is activated. This arrangement keeps the transfer in the selected range when bouncing around on rough terrain (a more positive lock than...
Usually your 8 digit engine serial number (ESN) is all that is needed to get gaskets, castings etc. Your critical parts list number (CPL) comes into play for any component that affects horsepower rating ie; injectors, cam, injector pump, etc.

Vgunner, Just to give yourself a sanity check, you could break the fuel line between the PT pump and your fuel tanks where it transitions from rubber to copper. I think you can do this on the drivers side frame rail above the starter. Use a clean 5 gallon fuel can with known good fuel to pull...
I used an 1-1/2" GR8 FT bolt that started out about 6" long (half threaded, half not) with a slotted/castle nut on the front side (with flat washer) to adjust for wear (if ever needed) or disassembly (if ever needed). The front and rear rotating halves are 1-1/2 by 5-1/2 inch bar stock about 12...
Here are a couple of pics of the hitch I put on the back of my M936 this past year. I can back into about any vocational truck, or probably tactical too, and within five minutes have the disabled vehicles tires off the ground. For most "civilian" trucks, the hitch legs ride about level. I...
You will definitely want all three dimensions of movement between the wrecker and disabled vehicle. Most of the time your attaching chains will not be hooked at the same lengths...without the towbar being able to twist it puts a lot of force on one side. I built a holmes 750 "like" arrangement...
The unitized style seal SKF (CR) PN is 47660 and the National PN is 370051A. I have had good luck with both of these in the drive axles (M936). If you haven't installed this type of seal before, read the manufacturer's install procedures...this style of seal is not installed like the steel...
I am not sure if you already bought the new seals, but if you haven't yet, you could go with either National or CR "unitized" seals and get away from the old single lip seal and wear ring assembly.

What might have happened is that the fuel tank had been overfilled at some point and the fuel got "vacuumed" into the transfer case and subsequently (after overfilling the t-case with diesel) was "vacuumed" into the air filter housing via the vent circuit. Remove the t-case fill level check plug...
In 1985 I signed for 4 each (brand new) M936's. Within the first year of using these trucks, I noticed that the transmissions were working loose from the engine flywheel housings... (because AM General used mild steel lock tabs for engine trans marriage bolts/screws.) Way before there was a PM...
From what I can tell from the picture, these are early 90's 1900's....probably have mechanical 466T's in the 200HP range (+/-) probably (-). But some the the best built International engines ever made. I really like the 5.9 Cummins family, but would rather have an old mechanical 466 any day...
