Sounds like you made out ok on the deal Cinman. The failure sounds odd...the piston skirts drop more than an inch below the liners when at BDC (bottom dead center). I am still wondering what caused the failure?

Rebar, "Cranking" and "turning over" are synonymous... lots of white smoke while cranking means you are getting fuel with air at injection. Black smoke conditions are usually experienced while the engine is running and over-fueling (un-burned fuel)...or an excessive air restriction (un-burned...
Warren,
I think the relocation is a very good idea. Do you think that a piece of 1/2" marine plywood cut to shape would do well on the floorboard? It is cheap, paintable, noise and temp absorbing, and would be a suitable mounting base for most anything.

Pistons are only made one diameter...Cylinder liners are one made one inner diameter...this is probably the result of an injector tip failure that was continued to be ran after an identifiable skip (one hole fuel overload). The catastrophic failure is probably the end-state of "I don't have a...
Reciprocating too! And for what it's worth (FWIW), I threw all of my valves in a bucket of water...and not one of them floated, or even flirted with my pistons!

Patracy, That is very interesting about the dual high pressure pumps used to increase delivery in the smaller "non-stock" engines. I have been into these pumps (stock) before in order to id failures/cause of failures (amazingly engineered by the way), but with 24,000+ psi in the manifold (at...
Common rail 5.9 fuel flow increase? How do you do that? (That's a real question, not sarcasm) 525 N14s do not have a fuel line "up-grades" to make more power. The pump pressures are the same for 100+ hp differentiation... injectors and timing change torque curves and hp ratings.

About 3-4 gallons per diff/axle...you don't need additives if you use the 80/90 weight gear oil (since there are no clutches). You can't go wrong with Dextron in the transmission...not sure how the Mercon would affect the clutches.

Hooper,
You could remove your oil filter and open up the pleats (sp?), in sunlight it is easy to tell if you have any abnormal metallic wear. A pocket magnet is a handy tool to id the steel from the aluminum debris. Filters are about $12...if yours does not show abnormal wear, at least your...
I too am glad that you have got the truck home, but have been confused since the beginning of the thread if you have an A2 with an 8.3l or an m936/a1 with a 14l... different set of t-shoot procedures for the condition given.
Regards, Bob
You will also have to switch flywheel housings due to the passenger side engine offset and SAE#2 allison trans housing (engine/ trans bolt pattern diameters) ...I wouldn't think going from 240 to 300 HP would be too harsh on the drivetrain if operated sensibly. If the 300 is kind of old and...
Before you drain your oil, you should get under the winch, have a helper operate the wind-in control (with your cable attached to an anchor), look up at the winch drive coupling (big double bike chain looking thing about 3" in diameter) and see if both input and output spin together to determine...
