I Second AJMBLAZER's statement. Here in the rust belt these CUCV's tend to be in far better shape than their civilian cousins, and almost always far less mileage. Not to mention reasonably priced as well. Given that they have strong drivetrain, stout brush guards and four factory shackle/lifting...
I took mine out when I lifted my M1008. Just used the lift blocks. Follow the instructions as to which way the taper should go. I didn't put the factory u-bolt plates back in as I installed a ORD U-bolt flip kit.
So I just got my new cargo cover setup for my M1008. It is a complete take-off setup from another SS members truck. Overall I couldn't be happier. Only one of the turnbuttons/cutain fasteners or whatever you want to call them is damaged. The cover is brand new, and the setup even came with the...
Well, My M1008 and I are in as long as the dates don't change, Oct. 22-26. I have to work on the 22nd but maybe I can get lost time, or take the day otherwise I'll miss the convoy. But at least I'll be there for the wheeling. I was real upset I missed this last year. But I did enjoy meeting a...
Cool, I didn't realize you were so close. I'm in Commack. Once I check the TM's and familiarize/make sense of all the parts and its assembly (it's really not that complicated) maybe I'll shot you a line.
Just got back from New Hampshire picking up up my new top and troop seats today. As stated before, there are several angle iron type brackets with twist locks that the bows are mounted to and the canvas/vinyl cover attaches to that get bolted to the bed rails. Should be interesting trying to put...
Look up GMA cover corp. They make all types of military canvas/vinyl tops including the one for the M1008. You can get them either solid green or camo. They run in the area of 200-250 if I remember correctly. Otherwise rallies, swap meets and the internet for a used one. I'm working on...
Thanks guys, it's always nice to get real world accounts of what its like driving these vehicles. Everybody I know of course has "driven one", but it was "once" in the 60's when gas was cheap and they thought the truck could do 60 etc....... Have to do some thinking on this one. I have...
I did try a search, but didn't net as many results as you. And I'm familiar with the truck. I just wanted to know how the M1009 reacted mpg wise to different driving styles, and how fast people (who use them on a regular basis) were driving them.
Well, I've been driving my 1008 almost everyday to work @ 100 mile round trip, and 50-55 mph and 16 mpg is getting a little old. But I did however realize that I really enjoy driving it. More so then my 2001 6spd Z28. So I think it may finally be the time to ditch the Camaro and get a M1009. I'm...
I've been toying with the idea of picking up a M37 for a while now. I want another military vehicle, but more importantly one that looks like a military vehicle. Too many people confuse my M1008 with a hunting truck. I'd get a Duece but I don't have the room for one. Not a big fan of the M715 or...
Now that the weather is starting to get a little better I want to start working on my M416 trailer. I aquired a set of original lights for it (not the composite lights) from another memeber here and need to reaplace some of the lenses. Where can I get replacement red and clear lenses for the...
I have a M1008 in NY (Long Island) and I have pasenger plates. True the given weight for the truck is 5900 lbs. However I got mine down to 5400 and got passenger plates. My PA title said 5900 lbs. too. I took everything out from behind the seat, took out the spare tire, and went down with at...
If you search on google, there are a few companies around the country that can get you a new title for the truck. Costs @ $175-$250. Essentially they buy the truck from you and title it in their state and then "re-sell it" back to you with the new title and you just register it with that in your...
There is a brand new WIX filter sitting in my truck for just that. Diesel 911 is not that common around me, I've seen it but I always forget to get it and where it was. Eventually I'll put 2 and 2 together. For now the power services stuf will stay in my truck and get put in with each fuel up.
I did a 4"/3" on my truck figuring that the front springs would settle slightly over time. It's been about 6 months now and theres no signs of settling. Which in reality is a good thing. I would like the added flex of the rear axle the shackle flip affords. The shifting of the axle is the big...
Thats news to me. I've never read anywhere that they should be changed that often. I just figured that they should be treated like a regular car and done every year. If thats the case then I'll adjust my schedule accordingly.
How does the truck sit with the shackle flip in the back? Is it Level? I have the same setup as you (minus the shackle flip) from ORD as well. I'm looking to replace the rear lift blocks with a shackle flip setup but I hate the look of nose diving 4WD trucks. I thought the flip was 4 1/2 inches.
Well, I drove it to the parts store to pick up a new fuel filter and couldn't get it to repeat the symptoms but it did seem a little slower than normal. I replaced the old Purolator fuel filter with a new AC Delco one and all seems well. I did notice that during the bleeding process a much...
The lowest I saw the temperature get while I was there, was about 2 degrees. And that was when I woke up at about 6 in the morning and the sun was already up. Who knows how low it got during the night. It was around 30 while i was driving home and maybe in the teens going up. I was running anit...
