NOOB. Looking for a little help joining the gang.

For parades and such, worst case scenario is you go buy a trip permit which allows you to drive it for a couple days. Only allowed to get them like 3 times in a year for a single vehicle, but used to be ( and might still be) that you could buy the permit at an office and "forget" to fill out...

NOOB. Looking for a little help joining the gang.

Part of the issue is that the M998 is the common base model, so it's what comes up when they start looking at HMMWVs. All the ones I know of that have been fine for years now are M1123s or M1097s, or a couple other variants that are NOT M998. I remember talking with someone back in 2019 when I...

    20kw Generator

So other than the aircon unit, what other loads do you have to power? Modern lighting is negligible if you have LED bulbs. Hot water tank, clothes dryer, oven, range, and other appliances, if you pay a little bit of attention, can all be run one at a time on a 5kw gen no problem. Not too...

    Oil Cooler Bypassed?

I think it's a bad idea. A search of the internet also says eliminating an oil cooler from a 6.5l diesel is a bad idea. The coolant really only cools the heads and cylinders. The oil is what keeps the lower end cooled. It's highly recommended everywhere I can find to keep the oil cooler to...

    Question about rear condensers

From the diagram in the parts manual, it looks like it splits off down at the frame area before the condensers, and then combine again right next to where it splits.

Advice for re-seal of differential output shafts

The early trucks mounting brackets for the differential interferes with the seal, which is why the differential has to be removed for the seals. There is a chance that it has been done before though, so check closely before removing to see if the bracket has been modified to clear the seal. If...

Brake switch malfunction causing TCC not to lock up.

If you don't have LED bulbs or assemblies in the rear, you'll want to get them. The switch doesn't seem to like the load from incandescent bulbs, so they fail much faster if using them.

    M1151/1152/1165 12v - Where is it?

12V should go from the regulator to the rear battery, then from the rear battery to the TCM. I wasn't aware of any 12V sources inside the cab area that are OEM, but I also don't have much experience with the newer trucks.

    air in fuel issues

Mine did the same basic thing (lack of power, and died when fuel filter drain opened) Installed new lift pump and that fixed it. I doubt it's the check valves as that would require near complete blockage, as that would keep the engine from getting any fuel at all, so it wouldn't run.

    My 4L80E trouble codes

Might consider getting AAA+ towing. Will tow 100 miles or 200 miles depending on what level you buy. I do believe that towing to the shop would be covered.

    Unidentified Unconnected wire behind engine

The M1097R1 is the reworked version, and can be an A1 or an A2 variant. He said his truck is an M1097A2, so not a reworked one. 1097 is just heavy variant.

Noise from rear end after replacing all 4 halfshafts

If you've done work to the brakes, there is always the possibility that the brake lines got bent and are rubbing on the outside of the brake rotor. Also, check to make sure the brackets that hold the calipers don't have loose bolts holding the bracket to the differrential (I've had it happen on...

    Electrical Gremlins. HMMWV M1097R1.

Lever has to be in "stop light" or "service drive" for brake lights and signals to work. If your signals work, then it's in the right position for the brake lights to work.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I just went through their site. Lots of great products, but also a lot of them are kind of spendy. I didn't see anything that would function the same as what I did above, but it's a great resource for other types of setups.

LS671 wired for walkie talkie use

So I posted this over in the HMMWV page in the " What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately " thread, but it's probably more fitting for it to be in here as it's radio related equipment. I wanted to be able to use a GMRS radio in the HMMWV while moving, as I do off road driving and sometimes...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

To add to the above, here is where everything goes without having to figure out the wiring diagrams for yourself: Side note, the H250 handset is noise cancelling or something like that (it's just not very loud when speaking into it, but I've heard it said other places it's "noise cancelling")...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

So when I go out wheeling with a group I use a GMRS walkie talkie. Problem is, the truck is so loud I can't really hear when other people are talking, or at least not clearly. I didn't see anything obvious in the radio section and web search didn't show a whole lot specific to what I was...

    Who made this wheel?

A wheel/tire/runflat should be in the 150-160 lb range, and without the runflat should be in the 120-130 lbs range. If your tire assemblies really weigh as much as you say, they must be filled with ballast of some sort. 225 or 350 sounds more like pairs of tires than singles for the HMMWV.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

24V has half the amps. My 12k lb milemarker electric is rated for 185 amps on 24V at full load. The 12V version is 370 amps. On a 12V system, especially if it's a single battery, you're going to be drawing it down quite a bit on a longer pull, and the more the voltage drops, the higher the...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Ground disconnect if you are killing all power to the vehicle. Hot side disconnect if you are using it as a power switch for the item, same as any other hot electrical circuit you want to turn off. For my winch I put a breaker on the hot side. Some people say yes, others say no when it...
