When I lived in Denver I used the Swingfire heater a lot, having the original installation in a 404 Unimog radio box. Having hot fresh air heat available when the snow and wind were swirling outside was wonderful. The heat exchanger provides dry heat, too, not steaming up the inside of the box...
That's a very nice offer. Vibrators and tubes could be usable and valuable, but could just as easily be vibrators from unknown relic and useless old TV tubes. Is it worth your effort to record some part numbers?
thanks,
That plug is a standard John Deere part, believe it or not. Check with your local dealer. I will try to find the p/n when back to my computer. The same plug and socket is used by BMW cycles, too.
Two plugs and some wire and you have a cable.
Edit. One source is Expedition Imports. Search...
I vote like John. Any older vehicle with no protective structure build in can use a rollbar for insurance.
From those two videos, Blazer rollover is caused by driver brain-fade.
A tire going bad can cause pulling (the Denmans). Having mismatched tires can certainly cause pulling. Swap the tires as you said and see what changes. Crown on the road can effect some truck/tire combinations more than others but normally will not cause continuous pulling. IMHO you should...
Commercial OTR trucks are always level. Our Mil trucks were made to be tilted during offroading (some as high as 45 degree), and maybe even parked at large angle of tilt. In those cases the lower tank can overflow, and the upper tank starve for fuel. For those reasons the crossover might not...
The first outing!
Our local Mil Veh group, Knoxville Military Vehicle Club, set up a stationary display in front of the American Legion in Rockwood, TN, last week. This was the first long tow and event for the comm trailer (now designated M105A404 !).
The trailer towed great and the U-1300...
Matt, the answer to your question depends on what is 'complete resto', and your goals. Unless you like big and long term projects it's best to get solid drive train at a minimum, but anything else can be 'restored' with elbow grease. If you are getting a Unimog to work on and piddle with, then...
Now a 5 year old has his license. Apparently the test is becoming nearly reachable for most of us old guys on SS, he, he.

StationJJ, you are setting up your truck as I like to set up my 24v trucks. Having a third 12v battery separate from the truck system not only avoids your running down the truck battery but also isolates (or helps isolate) the radio power from the noisy truck electrical. On a normal 24v...
Why is it there is always someone on SS who feels the need to run down all Unimogs, especially the SEE version? Go to any Unimog thread and you will see what I mean. Of course I am biased, but if I attacked Deuces or 5-tons with the same fervor I'd be banned from the site. Those two videos...
What Scott says!!!
I have a French 1957 404 made just after the standard wheelbase of the 404's was lengthened (that was in '56). The French bought a bunch of the longer ones too, and considering the scarcity of the short wheelbase mogs, chances are any 404 Unimog you see for sale will be the...
MilChevyGuy,
Have not seen an M-1010 boxed trailer but that could be a good combination. However, if mounted on an M-105, the M-1010 box would really be up in the air. The '1010 is much taller than the 404 box. Of course that's a good thing for creature comfort but the center of gravity...
Update on progress.
The front desk is tidied up and installed. Front heater ducting removed (will use portable heater, propane or electric depending on facilities available).
A PRC-174 transceiver is installed temporarily to test an articulating mount. Works great! These radio boxes are...
Hi Rich,
You have gotten some really good technical advice from the fellows already. With your non-critical use requirements, and the ability of modern CB's to protect themselves against mismatch, you might just try the mounting as you initially described and see if that dual mount setup works...
There's lots of magic in antennas. But, since the MX-6707 / AS-1720 / AT 1095 combination is a center-fed dipole, and each side of the dipole is already too short to cover below 30 MHz, wonder why the match is improved by cutting off more??? The AS-1720 lower section is about 52 inches, the...
It's great! I take the other side of the argument. I started using POR15 for rusted metal in the late 90's and most applications have not deteriorated at all in over 15 years. POR 15 has been used here to plug a bad gasoline tank on a 'mog 404, perforated in over 50 places by some kind of...
