    More winching ops questions

You are right!! I know when to admit defeat :-) And here's the proof: My model had a little extra friction but when given the opportunity from a little outside force, the 'truck' moves backwards and more cable slack is created. Worst part of all this, my daughter told me I was wrong too :-(

    More winching ops questions

Ok, but: the cable around those multiple blocks is getting shorter, right? And the cable is still being sucked into the winch, right? So where is the slack coming from that the winch is pulling in, with three immovable objects in a triangle? Another way to look at it: the leg of the...

    More winching ops questions

There's one way it could work: the front "immovable object" not to be immovable. If that front tie point were the rear of another truck, for example, then there'd be a way to take up more slack out of the triangle (front truck moves backwards), then the stuck truck could move backwards due to...

    More winching ops questions

I don't get it. This defies logic to me so maybe someone can explain it. I believe this is a good way to 'make the truck longer'. We are close to April 1 though! One of my Unimogs is set up with a mid-mount winch from which the cable can run backwards, u-turn around a sheave, runs back...

    Just picked up a 406

Congrats on the 406! I like these trucks, too. I also prefer drum brakes because they are cheaper and easier to work on. The cups are not metric so you can find them at a good auto parts house. Might not need them because the brakes on these wear slowly. Might have to disassemble, clean...

    what a mess

Sure would be great to see some more pics of that front axle situation, but I'm with NDT on this. The front torque tube is disconnected from the front axle, and that's all that keeps the axle from rotating like it has. Maybe it was taken apart, maybe the bolts worked loose and broke, allowing...

    Ones that Rusted Away

When I was 14, my family would drive past a very nice Dodge Power Wagon parked in front of a store in Tallassee, TN. It never moved. My dad went in and asked about buying it. It was not for sale. That was in about 1959. Last year, yeah, 2008, 49 years later, someone finally hauled off the...

    Need engine rebuild kit om352

Here's the ultimate source list for Unimogs, including OM-352 parts: Rocky Mountain Moggers - Unimog Links All those North American businesses are good but the ones in blue are the really active ones. Also check out EUROTECH SERVICES INTERNATIONAL, UNIMOG, an excellent source (but not in...

    Mog for sale

Hi, Sale of Unimogs is really slow right now but you hinted at wanting a price from more normal times. It's not unusual to hear of these selling in the mid 20's. Really nice fixed up ones could go $30k or higher. On the low side, an MB-4/94 with those implements, but needing work, complete...

    Mog for sale

IMHO, that truck won't sell for that price due to the economy right now. I watch these on fleabay and other places and prices are down. A couple of years ago it would have been worth that $8500 USD. I know nothing about that truck, but just from looking it's an ex-Swiss 404s (wedge shaped...

    MOG trailers ?

M-105 behind 404 Unimog There is a special trailer for a 404 Unimog. I don't have a picture. The tongue is unique in that it can be raised and lowered by loosening, adjusting the angles, and tightening, at two joints. I have seen pictures and it's not a light weight trailer, and usually has...

    winch torque???

screamin t/a, The mid-mounted winch fed front and rear can work great. Here's a link to a setup on one on my Unimogs. http://www.rockymountainmoggers.com/bobmoglite.html Those build pictures were spread out over several years so the dirtiest pics are the newest :-D. Just be sure the pivot...

What type of shelter is this?

ksm715, I've moved my S250 several times with a little trailer like you have. If you take along a Hi-Lift jack and a couple of concrete blocks (jack stands, etc), just jack up one skinny end, support it a couple of feet back from the end, and back the trailer under it. Then use a big ratchet...

    African CUCV smoke trouble

Since you have looked for all the bad signs (oil condition, coolant contamination, pressure in radiator, oil pressure good, etc) sounds to me that the smoke is simply from lack of running. One trick to know which cylinders are firing and which ones are not is to start it and check the exhaust...

    Burlington CO

That would be Ranchers Supply in Lamar, CO. I was through there a couple of months ago and they had several dozen odds and ends of trucks and other vehicles. Be sure to visit their store, too, rows and rows of surplus, parts, hardware, nuts and bolts, etc. Fun place, and nice guys hanging...

How much do you drive your bigger MV

My "big" MV, a U-1300L Unimog, never saw military use...it went from production line with it's military brethren directly to a fire department as a fast response rescue truck. As such it had faster axle ratios, etc. I say that to take it out of the list of 'real' mil vees you guys have. I do...
