Yeah, he hasn't a clue. I've found that about 40 psi is about right for good ride and best tire tread wear on my U-1300. (probably near equivalent to an M35... 14,000 lbs on 4 wheels, 14.5 x 20 Mich XL's). I have had them down to 15 psi for rough or soft stuff and never a debead. FWIW...

Running a winch (worm gear type) backwards also puts the force on the worm gear in the opposite direction. Most winches are made with the force 'inward' on the worm gear. The bearings in the 'out' direction are probably not as robust, and may not have any axial strength at all! Bottom line...

Maybe the previous owner had problems with carb heating. Adding those extra gaskets isolates the carb from the manifold. Think I'd consider one of the Bakelite spacers to space it, but I have no idea if that was standard on an M38A1. My old ex M-38 has an F-head in it and uses a spacer. Bob
