Right on the money, Rustygears.
A common misconception is that the "tuners" in some antenna bases actually care what the SWR (reflected power) is. They don't. These antenna 'tuners' simply step to a combination of inductance and capacitance preset to positions guessed at by the manufacturer...
Hi Kyle,
Maybe next year for the SEMF!
You are right about fuel issues with the 404 systems. Vapor lock can be a serious issue. Gas has to be pulled all the way from the tanks to the mechanical pump up front.
I also added an electric pump pushing from the bottom of the rear tank (there's an...
Over the years the following shocks have been reported as usable on the 404. You may need a couple of washers to compensate for too short a sleeve on the ends, and there might not be a metal sleeve in the ends of all of these (only rubber bushings). BUT, they are cheap. Even the Koni...
The seller is sending me a replacement asap so all is well. Most importantly, he is checking his inventory to be sure the same situation does not occur on other orders. "He who has remained un-named" has been a great guy to deal with:-)

This thread has been timely for me. I am wiring up a PRC-77 in an MT-3823 mount, with the U-383 power supply adapter. Just received a MX-7777B from "tbanks" (Thanks!!). An AM-4477 amp will be part of the stack.
This note concerns the CX-10071 cable I bought off Ebay and received today, as a...
Good info, thanks! Looks like the
AS-3684 would work great on the FM portion of 10 meters, as with some of the European sets that tune below 30 MHz.
Bob
The answer is yes if no one else has grabbed it. It's even possible to get someone else's callsign, if they let it expire for some time. As to how, will need to ask. Another option is to do 'vanity' callsign to get it.
Was the antenna matched for the frequency in use? High SWR could cause heavy current in PA (power amp) and maybe blow a fuse? Maybe HV failure?
Just guesses.

Come on, tell us, did you paint over a set of Dub chrome wheels? LOL.
Please tell us more about the tires: wheel size? road speed rated? manufacturer?
You have done a fine job getting your 404 up to speed, literally. These little engines can perform quite well when tuned correctly.

The RC-292 is just a single omni-directional radiator that's installed higher than the similar antenna on a vehicle. It has low gain in any one direction because it tries to look in all directions at once.
If you want to communicate in a particular direction, you need a directional antenna...
Do you have a battery to look at? Many of the batteries have the pinout and voltages printed on them.
If not, and you are looking at the pins on the bottom of the radio, they are set up like this:
- The big "D" pin is only for orientation, no connections to it.
- The pin following the...
That's not too bad a price. I have seen lower, and got one for lower, then had to spend 2 months working on it! But, I have also seen these priced (not sold??maybe) at up to $1400 for a complete kit. Sources include direct from vendors in Israel, and from US people who have brought them in...
This is a challenging set of desires: transceiver, military, general listening (would need wide AM for AM broadcast, SSB for ham, maybe narrow bandwidth for CW). All that, and easily tunable. I don't know of such a radio either.
Most any military transceiver available today is channelized...
I use Amsoil in 6 Unimogs, in the gearboxes, diffs, and portal boxes. The lower viscosity makes a huge improvement in cold weather running (especially in the underpowered 404 mogs) and in shifting the newer mogs.
Wear products in the transmission declined noticeably (and Blackstone testing...
You may have touched on a viable solution. Add a back seat for the kid by popping the back of the cab rearward a foot. Since the bed is coming off that'd be easy.
That's a good looking 404 under the 'makeup'. Wash her face and take her home and love her LOL.
An original flatbed would, IMHO, help the sale but the present market for 404 mogs is probably no where near your $$ expectations. ...but ya never know.

Ulf, thanks for your picture contributions! Those hundreds of 404 Unimogs proceeding with entropy are sad, but your radio truck is the nicest I have seen! Great job restoring and maintaining!
The market for 404's in Europe must be slow? Too bad shipping is so expensive.
thanks and happy...
1900 to 2000 lbs is a good estimate of a Unimog radio box weight. I think you are slightly underestimating the '105 at 1500 lbs... it might be more.
That combination has a high center of gravity, another consideration against towing with a low hitch. Those raised hitches for a 2" receiver put...
