Since you are replacing the injection pump, now's a good time to remove the fuel injection lines, remove the valve covers and do some snooping around. A stuck valve will attempt to stay in the downward position even when the rocker arm does not have tension against it.
Just to understand where you are at, is the old injection pump still on the engine or are you halfway into installing the new one? I had a similar issue when installing the 3 bolts into the injection pump drive gear when installing my new injection pump. I had tightened the first two down just...

I like YouTube videos for explanations as well. Long and Short of it, if all of the glow plugs are drawing from the batteries the stock system works well. That's why Curtisje measured 24 plus volts at each end of the resistor bank, no load was...
Sir,
I hate to take away from the original question and I'll state up front that I admire your expertise on the CUCV's. While there are no "cascading glow plugs", the stock system on these trucks have a cascading effect in the event that 1 glowplug fails. The resistor behind the air cleaner...
cucvrus,
No new dog in the pound, I did call it FIDO instead of ROVER though. I should have stated Glow Plug Resistor Bypass which of course ensures that the system is only fed 12V. I know the stock system works great if all of the glow plugs are operational but we also know that it can...
Mine starts on about the second revolution of the engine even down to 10 degrees outside. I have AC 60G glowplugs and have done the Doghead 12V modification on the glowplug system. The Starter is the only thing on the truck that is 24 volt powered.
I used to idle my truck at 1,800 rpm while doing weekly battery charging (bad idea by the way, research wet stacking). Anyhow, when the fan comes on it will pull the truck down to about 1,200 rpm, belts would chirp upon engagement and it roars very loud. The first time it ever happened I was...
Let us know where the coolant level is inside the tank on the passenger side of the engine when you check it again. The manual calls for about an inch below the neck. If the cap makes a hissing suction sound when you pull it off, you can rule out a leak.
CARMAN,
Just curious, what kind of driving conditions are you under running those temperatures? My M923's fan never cycles on when moving a constant 40 mph or better and never budges over 180. Around town I'll have the fan cycle on and off as needed around 200 degrees in SW GA heat...
You've never really done it all until you led the best Squad on the Planet or been at the wheel of an M984A4! In the interest of keeping it M1089 related I'll toss out two pictures of my old one!
I have a 5 ton now (M923 N/A) but my observations are valid from when I had a Deuce. Research will tell you that a D Turbo is better than a C Turbo if you look at cfm numbers and mapping numbers. My Deuce had a D and I put a C on it. Seat of the pants feel, no difference, C is louder and...
Now I have a smart phone and I still can't capture much action. My Soldiers dropped a truck off at CSMS South but it was muddy as could be so they had to re-hook and take it to the wash rack. They also brought in a HMMWV but I didn't take pictures because an M984A4 pulling a HMMWV seems kinda...
Micro,
I wished I would have known about this event sooner. I would have planned to bring my 5 ton up instead of working in my garden. 229-364-2842 for future events Sir.
I'm nominating Member Godawgsdv8's Deuce with his permission. A beautiful picture of "Frankenstein" pulling Parade Duty for the Doerun, Ga "May Day" Parade with last month's Winner. The truck is named appropriately, it has alot of Gasser Deuce parts as received by it's current owner including...
I'd like a video as well but have some history with a smokey M923 with a NHC-250. I tried foolishly to run 50/50 waste ATF and Diesel. The mixture was clean and filtered by a centrifuge set-up that passed first through a 30 micron filter, centrifuge, 5 micron and finally a 2 micron finishing...
It does a pre-check when you start the truck. If everything seemed fine to the ABS system then good to go in it's mind. I would suggest if you've never had the drums off and checked the brake shoe linings and packed the bearings with grease as part of an Annual Service, it's time to schedule...
I started with a Deuce, got a second Deuce, serviced and sold it to pay for the first one, purchased a CUCV M1028 for the wife and then the 5 ton question came up. I initially took a M923 up to the Georgia Rally to see if I could sell it for a friend. I didn't get any real nibbles and thought...
My buddy comes off harsh but I know what he's trying to tell you. Spraying ether in an engine that uses glowplugs (yours does) or a intake heater do not react well if ether is introduced into the intake tract if even a portion of the system is working. The reason you have smoke but no fire is...
