Every time I'm under the truck draining the air tanks I look at backing plate of each wheel and the rim for evidence of leaking brake fluid. While driving leave enough stopping distance in front of me in case I have a problem or the driver in front of me has one. And when I see a stop sign or...
How can you tell what your truck was rebuilt from? I haven't found any other stamped serial numbers besides the A3 one on the frame under the driverside fender.
I read a report that the ESP did save the DOD some money compared to buying more LMTVs, but they bought more LMTVs anyway so I guess...
You'll definitely find more A2s than A3s. Only about 5800 A3 deuces were built across four variants. Anecdotal evidence shows that the M36A3 is probably the rarest of the A3 trucks, with M109A4 just behind that. I'm not sure what the breakdown is between the dropside and non-dropside M35A3s...
The coolant in my truck is mostly original. It should probably be flushed, but I plan on doing that whenever I get around to repairing the leaky heater core.
Because of the leaky heater core, the truck lost coolant on the passenger-side floor, so I had to add about two gallons of the red...
I'm not familiar with brake system design for any kind of brakes, but I know that hydraulic systems can be under some high pressures sometimes, like thousands of psi. I'm hoping there's someone here who's more knowledgeable about that who can chime in.
I'd think off-the-shelf springs of the...
If a crash happens because of it Dorman better have deep enough pockets for lawyers.
Brake cylinder boots aren't load-bearing, right? One could make a mold and cast reproduction ones out of an appropriate rubber.
As for the brake cylinders, they can be reverse-engineered and milled out in a...
Fortunately AT545 transmissions seem plentiful and the TMs cover that replacement in detail.
I think it would be neat to pull the old transmission apart to see the wrecked clutch disks.
I don't think disc brakes stand up to sitting idle for extended periods, especially outside. My 2012 Chrysler 200 sat out about 6 months of driving and the brakes froze up. The front ones freed up but I had to at least replace the rear calipers, and it took a bit of braking to clean the rust...
I took another look at your pictures and I see what you're saying now, especially since the primary fuel filter is mounted upside-down on the side of the motor. That housing you have in your pictures is mounted rightside-up. I never noticed a second filter housing on my motor, so I'm going to...
I was hoping that wasn't what you were talking about - that's really strange! That's the primary fuel filter for the motor with the built-in water separator. Why anyone would bypass that is beyond me, it's kinda important! I'm glad you got it fixed (y)
This is why the Army shouldn't have...
I'm a little confused - where did you put the pre-filter? I can't tell from the pics unless it's actually an in-line screen at the check valve that you're talking about?
It does take awhile to prime the truck with the fuel pump to get the motor started. When I changed the fuel filter last it...
I know the feeling! I have little kids at home too, which makes traditional truck recoveries non-starters!
I suggest looking into @unitedstatesoffreight . They moved a 1-ton van for me recently, but they've moved bigger stuff for other members here too. I negotiated a price with them and...
What sucks about using electric goop or whatever it is is that you have to fight with cleaning it out if you need to pull the terminal block apart. But YMMV - I'm just not a fan of anything like that
@VBsurfer if you can't find a cover or figure something else out, PM me and we can talk...
Take a look in the TM I have attached. I think your alternator is on PDF page 7 of 18. There's a parts list with NSNs at the end of the manual too. Unfortunately the image quality isn't that great on my copy so you might have to try a few NSNs to find what you're looking for. If all else...
What's the make and model of your alternator? It looks like what I found here in the Parts TM but... Backwards? And missing screw holes for the terminal cover.
Unfortunately there's no NSN reference for the terminal cover on that alternator.
