If I read it right and your are needing the frame to be rigid, you’ll be extremely disappointed. Majority of M939 frames are mild steel at best, deliberately, with minimal cross bracing, specifically designed to twist and keep the maximum number of wheels in contact with the ground. This is why...
That’s exactly how it goes for many that do that mod. A lot fight taking the plug out. No room, breaks, strips, etc...
It is supposed to have a decent effect though. I want to see that truck pull a block wall over soon.
Clamp the return line shut out of the injection pump. Replacement overflow valve may be held open by yuck. Don’t hold it too long like this, but good to test.
The military mushroom caps are easy to find (eBay, etc...), but people say they can be very restrictive due to the amount of actual surface area opening on the underside. If you are going for max performance, it may not be a good option? Possibly true, as the mushroom cap on a conventional...
#1 fuel, or this would be kitty (click to zoom):
Here are the current popular "fuel processors", really just meaning it is a filter and water separator combined (they just wanted to add a fancy term after 40 years). You can simply add the 24v heating element to these, from their...
Funny, I thought the thread title read "Turbo Addiction". I was like sweet, who doesn't have a turbo addiction? I have 3 turbo diesel engines. 6CTA8.3, ISL, and ISX Signature 600. The latter 2 are homeless for now, but run flawless and ready for their next assignment.
Cool build, thanks for...
I'd be happy to loan the offset wrench I have made to anybody, but would need an uncomfortably hefty returnable deposit ($200), because of all the tools I have ever loaned out, not a single one was returned without me having to ask for it back. This is why my father just outright tells people...
The waxing blockage occurs in the filters since that is the smallest pore opening of the system. Same as others said, just be sure to be using the correct fuel for the season. For the cold diesel testing we do here, the engine makers call for #1 diesel, which is kerosene. The engines start...

Post #103 is where I add retainer plates to the new end links before installing them, wrench is post #112.
Great work Lonnie. That is usually how this stuff goes. Your engine looks beautiful. Keep us posted, impressive your pickup could hold the weight of an 855 motor, and level? Air bags?
I think the input torque rating of those single shaft 5 and 6 speed Eaton FS series boxes are relatively low? Have you guys compared that to the torque rating of the engine you want to put in front of it? I had one as a 5 speed and could not even sell it for $100, even on here. Scrapped it...
Will on here has more various Cummins experience than the rest of us combined. He can take care of your #1/2 question (same question).
For #3, is the pressure plate/trans input shaft of an 809 series 2"?
I converted a smaller ISL from auto flexplate to pot type dual disc, and there were no...
Welcome. Seems like you have done some homework on reading, thanks. Keep us posted on the effect of each mod. There are a couple of intercoolers people have used, smaller and larger. Both posted here. The larger full size Volvo one is buried in a build thread by 4xdesign so harder to find...
The tick you hear is likely the mechanical fuel lift pump on the 8.3L. They click loudly and the resonation occurs back at the fuel tank. If you listen or feel the tank while it is idling, it should be evident, if that is the cause. No harm. Just how it is. Some do it and some don't. Seems...
I'd get the offset wrench I mentioned. Don't have to jack anything up, remove the tires, or take the spring pack apart and off. But, I'm lazy. Did all 12 ends of all 6 rods in a single evening, with retainer plates. I didn't even pull the cotter pins, just turned the nut right through them...
I agree, seems like fuel. I've helped Ted on the pickup tubes. The stock dip tube attachment fitting is inverted (female) flare, and Ted's are traditional AN (male flare). To help make it easier, Ted can send you what you would need in Parker Push-Lok fittings and hose, at a super reasonable...
Am I reading this wrong, or is he showing increased oil pressure after the filter adaptation, of which the sensor is after the filter? If so, then it seems the new filter is flowing better? I must be missing something.
Greetings from your neighbors south.
Hierarchy is: 931 (first gen let's say), 931a1 (second gen), and 931a2 (third gen). First gen will be dually wheels in rear, NHC-250 non-turbo engine. Second gen will be single wheels in rear, NHC-250 non-turbo engine. Third gen will be 6CTA8.3L turbo...
If you are unable to get it back on, which could be the case, I have successfully used two of the wider commercial type ratchet straps to act as the control arms instead to get the truck home after a link end disconnect. One around the axle housing pulling tightly in each direction, forward and...
