September 2019 MV of the Month Nominations

I am normally a "preserve it straight stock" kinda guy, but I really like your grill! Cheers

M116A1 pioneer tool trailer - new to me!

Military lights can be converted for 12v use simply by changing the bulbs. ;) Cheers

San Antonio, TX Monthly MV get together!!

John, I've got nothing against gates, particularly if it's my gate. ;) And as regards HOA, my HOA consists of me, and it is a dictatorship, though a benevolent one. I insist that all occupants have MVs, at least one of which is to be ugly, and may or may not run. If that one gets fixed up, a...

San Antonio, TX Monthly MV get together!!

I was in for this, before one of the gate posts gave way last night and the gate fell over. I found it first and did an expedient fix, but now the bull is lurking around going "Does this mean I can go over there? I'd swear the neighbour's grass is greener! Huh, huh?" So, I'll be setting gate...

    Help identify antenna/mast

Looks like at least this bit can mount on a Humvee also. Cheers

    Help identify antenna/mast

That appears to be an AB-1386/B QEAM antenna. It has multiple uses and can be mounted on whatever the user needs (vehicle, shelter, trailer, tripod). The items you have with it look like trailer mounts, I'll have to check in my photos to confirm that. Cheers

Painting an old truck an accurate US military tan color...

All three of the attached are in theater during the Desert Storm era. Some vehicles went over in tan, most went over in whatever paint they were wearing and got repainted over there, or never got painted at all. The ones painted tan got anything from a slop on job with a broom, to a neatly...

    Valence's 1997 Pribbs M101A3

No worries! Thank you for taking the effort. All duly logged in my USMC markings file for us to reference in the future. :) Here is the Marine 1028 in the junkyard with the non-standard markings I talked about in PM. The yellow markings should be on uncamouflaged non-tactical vehicles...

    unidentified towed object

Unknown to me how many were made, I've never seen one like yours. It does seem a really nice unit. From the looks of your parking brake handles, it may be an A1, but someone with more knowledge would be needed to be sure. Just to clarify - M116 is the chassis that the M101 is made from. If...

    unidentified towed object

Yes, they will use other beds, or build/modify their own to suit their needs. Some of these trailers are one-offs. To show how far they will go, I have a shop-built 35' step deck trailer built by one of the MCLBs! All Marine vehicles post-1940s have a 6-digit ID number with no letters. The...

    unidentified towed object

The Marine Corps was and is notorious for producing shop-built trailers for specific needs, using anything from a few to a lot of standard military parts. They produce zero documentation or manuals for these! As Gimp said, looks like an M116 (basic chassis for the M101 and other trailers) with...

    throttle linkage sticking???

Ditto on the above. After checking all the complicated stuff, I realized it was the pedal hinge itself sticking on my M931 (which was being driven regularly). Lube didn't help, the pedal ended up stuck solid. I replaced it with the pedal out a parts 1966 M35, bolted right in and it is...

Need some clarification on M880 Camo Pattern

When I was in Norway with the Marines in 1980, our vehicles were all painted in the Winter Verdant MERDC scheme year round (green 34079, field drab brown 30118, with small sand and black bits. See attached pictures). This was pretty much the standard scheme for the Marines, and most of our...

    M109 Shop Van question

The ones on upper part were for putting bows and a tarp over the roof, mainly to disguise shop vans ("Oooh baby!" targets) as common cargo trucks ("Nyeh, won't bother to shoot that common cargo truck" targets). Added benefit of a bit of extra shade. Some of the older versions of the manual...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Yep, but I refer back to - Even 5 years ago, or maybe on a cooler day, or even if I'd had decent tools with me, I'd have fixed in situ. But advancing antiquity makes that more difficult for me now. Getting older sucks! Cheers

    Where's AHAB ?

Just watched Tracer's c-rat video, quite interesting. He is a braver man than I am, Gunga Din, no way I am putting 60 year old c-rats down the hatch! I imagine those key-opening cans would make good coffee cups, on our later MCI c-rats which were opened with a can opener (John Wayne to...

M37 ran fine for last years parades, this year, not so much

You wouldn't be the first to get towed through a parade! (Nor the last) In the last 15 years, it has happened pretty regularly to folks in our club, usually one of the WWII jeep guys. And its usually because their vehicles just plain don't get driven enough. I always have a military tow...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

"What have you done to your CUCV lately" Towed the SOB home! I drove the 1009 into Austin, I was driving down Hwy 183 and right as I took my exit, the engine just shut down like I'd turned off the key. Tried to let it roll out of the way, but uphill with nowhere to go I ended up in a...

    hood numbers

The K means it is a tactical vehicle (as opposed to Utility, Trailer, etc., they each have their own code). As NDT said, 95 is the year the Air Force took the vehicle on inventory, it is usually the year the vehicle was built, but not always. For example, say your Humvee was originally built...
