Depending on the color I would try some of the FlexSeal stuff. I know that it isn't an OEM type repair, but it might be affordable depending on how large of an area you are talking about. If nearly the whole thing needs to be recoated, then I would talk to a shop that does tent canvas repair or...
This was one of the rims with RTV and surprisingly it separated really easily. So easy that I thought I had left air in the tire. They used so much RTV that the o-ring never got crushed at all. So at least I can reuse this o-ring since all I had to do was clean off all the rust that was stuck to...
According to the all knowing Google, these are the 5/16 o-rings. Although they were second hand from 98, they still appear to be in working condition. Got the wheel and rim together and then started the battle to change the right front tire out since it goes nearly completely flat overnight now...
Thanks 98G, didn't notice till now that there was activity, I was busy fixing the spare tire and trying to get it mounted.
Ok, first...are you talking about the accelerator cam lever on the IP? If so I'll try to remember to take a look tomorrow when I'm trying to disassemble the next tire...
Thanks again 98G for the o-rings. I would've started working on the tires right away but had that other issue that had to be dealt with first (at least my freezer is full now lol)
Yes, according to the spreadsheet it'll be the 1/4" one. I looked at the old o-ring and think it is the right size. I just hope that all the sealing surfaces will be in as good of condition as this one that I already pulled apart.
Got it together a couple days ago and tested it, worked good up 50psi and then started leaking. No better than what I'm already dealing with. I suspected it might do that since I saw a few spots that looked like it might not maintain contact with the two sealing surfaces. I will get the o-rings...
You talkin about the M18 Fuel?
Got the tire apart today, took into town to a friend at the local mechanic shop. He had a 3/4 impact and let me bust nuts loose. When I got home and got it apart with a little help from some air I was surprised at how little rust there was. There wasn't any on the...
This is probably a stupid question for most, but I've never done this kind of work since I was a gas gear head.
Does an IP adjustment require the pump to be off the motor? All I've seen for pictures seems to be the front engine/IP, though it could be the back I guess.
I would really prefer a manual method to do this, for a couple reasons but mainly because I don't want to have to run the truck just to get this done. I would rather have a torque multiplier like the lug nuts tool that I got from CSM Davis.
This has been easier said, or thought, than done. I started off by running a 3/4-16 die down the threads to make it as easy as I could to remove the nuts. After lots of lube oil and pressure washing I got the threads chased and started to work on removing the nuts. This is where any forward...
I agree, but I'm out in the mountains and climbing most of these at 35mph is getting really old, not to mention if I'm out on the dirt roads climbing around and have to stop, it is extra painful to try to get the truck into the turbo again while on grade. Besides, the extra fuel economy would be...
Mind you I haven't dived into mine yet because I'm still dealing with fuel delivery issues, but I would say that it's easier said than done. In theory it might sound like a good idea, but moving around a tire that weighs as much as you do, or more, and trying to get the o-ring in place, while...
Has anyone else ventured into the crazy and water injected their 6CTA yet? I know we have options for turning up the power in the IPs and other places, but I wanted something that would actually cool the intake charge since we don't have an intercooler on these engines. I would love to put one...
Got something figured out. By 'figured out', I mean redneck style lol I do still have to verify that what I did will work but I'm fairly confident it'll work. My neighbor had a 1/2" MNPT compression fitting for 1/2" tubing so we put it in the drill chuck and ground enough of the threads off...
If you want a XLWB chassis for the 20ft cargo bed then I would suggest the 934, it gives you better departure angles than the 927/928 does. I have bigger plans for this truck than just being a playtoy, it will actually carry a 20ft ISO that will be an RV (removable), and I'll be pulling another...
**** fitting stripped out when I finally got everything together. Going to have to find a fix for this, but it'll probably be down till next month anyways. I might just wait anyways so that I can I get the J844 type B fittings and hose for it instead.
