1083A1 - Brakes do only half release, ABS light is on!

The LMTV TM for the A0 models, the -365-20-3, section 11.2, shows a manual adjuster for the front shoes. Like any old car with drum brakes, the adjuster provides a preload in the shoe-to-drum distance. The automatic adjuster completes the rest. Seeing how badly the fronts were set up on my...

LMTV CTIS $10 upgrade to ~75psi for Highway

OK, survived the road trip from Colorado to Nevada, 1000+ miles, across I-70 and US Hwy 50 - a.k.a. America's Loneliest Highway. No failures!!! Some fantastic scenery not normally observed. Of notes on the drive: Fuel gauge sticks at times, drops 1/8 of a tank after jumping for 15 minutes...

LMTV CTIS $10 upgrade to ~75psi for Highway

I’ll post results in a few days. I’ve got the higher pressure transducer in my M1081. Am leaving Colorado Springs tomorrow morning headed to Reno Nevada driving the truck, pulling my 5500lb zombie emergency response vehicle (HMMWV kit on suburban chassis)

    contemplating LMTV or FMTV purchase

Well, I think it was an M900-series, may have been a 5-ton. It was going the other way, both of us doing about 50mph. I had about <-----> that long to look at it without hitting another vehicle or driving off the highway. But it had something like a modified Airstream mounted in the bed. The...

    contemplating LMTV or FMTV purchase

I just saw an M9xx on Hwy 50 this weekend outside Fallon, had a camper mounted on the bed, pulling a trailer. Couldn't get turned around to chase down though. Can't wait to get my M1081 and my Zombie Outbreak Response Vehicle out here in a couple of months. Do some real exploring! Corvettes...

snowtrac, I'm gonna thread-jack for a moment, or you can PM me if you like. I'd like a few more horses on my M1081 A0 225HP 3116. How much is safe to tweak the rack for more power, and would adding the turbo from a 275 or 290HP model be easier? Both? Thx...

    Air Chamber removal question

Long (12" or more) steel punch and 2+ lb hand sledge worked for mine. The lock rings looked like a beaver had chewed on them, but I had spares (thanks Suprman).

    contemplating LMTV or FMTV purchase

Heh. You get lots of attention driving a large ex-military vehicle like the LMTV. Lots of folks want to ask questions, or regale you with stories of their experiences involving military vehicles. Hence, if you are not comfortable talking with strangers who approach you and your truck and want to...

    contemplating LMTV or FMTV purchase

I've had an M35 (with "C" whistler motor) years ago, and now have an LMTV (M1081). The M35 was very inexpensive to operate, ran on nearly any kind of fuel, and was simple to maintain, with tons of M35-specific parts available. The LMTV, on the flip side, is more expensive to operate as it is...

    New owner of 1997 LMTV

That's a Hall (magnetic) sensor and has no moving parts inside. Measures rotation speed. If you ohm it out you should read between 300 and 400 ohms depending on the temperature. You should also be getting a code 2215 if there's a failure. They're pretty bulletproof. Maybe you have a failure in...

What have you done WITH your FMTV ( trips, Rescues etc) NOT: fixes, updates etc

I'm one of the schlubs in Colorado that got hit with the massive blizzard last week. Tuesday evening I plugged in Goliath's (M1081 A0) block heater. Wednesday worked at home. Snow day Wednesday: 0930 - rain changed to snow 1230 - cabin door on 5th wheel I live in could not be pushed open...

Chain hoist as heavy duty come along / winch?

Good to know, I was just guessing on the weight rating looking at the pictures and comparing with what I have on hand. Even worse for using as winch other than very light things. Definitely not for moving an LMTV...

Chain hoist as heavy duty come along / winch?

IMHO, based on my small 2T chain hoist, you'll have four issues: These hoists don't have much strength, maybe 5T max on the one depicted. Using one horizontally instead of vertically may be hard as the chains will want to drop off the pulleys (they're loose-fitting and depend on gravity to...

Anyone swap out their steering wheel?

I have an old LMTV steering wheel that I've stripped down to just the hub. I've already cut the spokes and rubber off of it. I'll take a look shortly and get some measurements and counts. Maybe someone can do the cross-reference to find out just what our steering shaft is based off of.

    Steering pump leaking

Did you ever find a pump? I got a used one from Suprman a couple of years ago for the Cat 3116 in my LMTV (M1081). It's been kept out of the weather since then, still dirty but I never installed it on my truck. $100 includes shipping. You need to make sure that the pump you need is the same, I...

What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

Buddy of mine told me that his Prius does not self-identify as a truck. So we used mine to get a bale of hay for his farm critters. Used the davit crane and a chain hoist to unload. Easy-peasy. And while other drivers were skittering across the ice and snow covered roads in East Colorado (West...
