LMTV CTIS $10 upgrade to ~75psi for Highway

Fantastic, thanks so much! I missed it in the other thread! ;-)

LMTV CTIS $10 upgrade to ~75psi for Highway

Nice to know that we can push the CTIS to increase tire pressure, and it's an easy and cheap mod. BUT WHAT IS THE PART NUMBER AND WHERE DID YOU GET IT???

Non-military rear brake chamber number ?

I did a whole writeup on rebuilding rear chambers for an FMTV, you can find it here: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?176915-Thoughts-on-rear-air-brake-chamber-assemblies

    Segmented partly-removable LMTV bed?

OK, some additional information and thought... Thought - eliminate the intermediate frame, mount the bed directly on the main frame. But that has lots of complications, clearance issues, would need wheel wells tubbed, and probably just look weird. Information (measurements) Height of LMTV bed...

    Segmented partly-removable LMTV bed?

Not bad - would be easier to move, nearly as strong.

    Segmented partly-removable LMTV bed?

Yup, got what you're putting out about shift in pivot point and rearward weight bias. I'm guessing that the rig handles more like a very heavy bumper-pull, not a fifth-wheel/gooseneck/tractor-trailer. OBTW, I talked to an ex-Army mechanic at work today, he seems to agree that the truck is an...

    Segmented partly-removable LMTV bed?

Have seen this posting and like his setup. But he's either running an A1 or there's something totally custom with the rear of his rig. The hitch is waaaaaayyyy different than any LMTV I've seen so far. And while it works for a gooseneck, may not work for a fifth-wheel camper, without modifying...

    Segmented partly-removable LMTV bed?

Bedtime for Bonzo here. Some interesting ideas. Between now and the weekend (weather permitting), I'll get some measurements on the camper overhang height and length, and LMTV info. I won't be able to use my camper specifically, it's wrapped with sheeting for winter weather. But will get close...

    Segmented partly-removable LMTV bed?

Unimogs are known for their frame flex, and anything mounted to the frame behind the cab must be three-point and flexible, not rigid! As for the Steyr 12M18 and LMTV, hard to say. Flex could go both ways - allowing more wheel travel overall, but possibly stressing the frame causing cracks. I...

    Segmented partly-removable LMTV bed?

Nice rig, something I'd considered as an option. Cutting the bed into 3rds versus half - 3rds would allow more clearance between bed and overhang, but you're right, would also shift weight forward. Could be compensated by moving the pin or saddle behind the axle, though might cause stress on...

    Segmented partly-removable LMTV bed?

Also thought about, but on a regular fifth-wheel camper the overhang is usually around five feet, just enough to clear the rails on a non-lifted pickup truck. So the overhang would barely clear the bed, and I'd have to really jack up the front of the fifth-wheel to get the hitch into place, and...

    Segmented partly-removable LMTV bed?

Well, removing the entire bed is feasible, if I travel cross-country, the bed is still where I started from. Or if I go somewhere for a shorter period of time and want to use the truck as a truck, not a tractor, I don't have the bed. The idea is that the bed travels with me in pieces, to be...

    Segmented partly-removable LMTV bed?

A crazy thought for the crowd. Here I am with a fleet of vehicles, including my M1081 and a fifth-wheel camper. I'm racking my brain on ways to be able to tow the camper, short of buying a -350/-3500 or larger truck (the fifth-wheel empty is 12k+ lbs). Part of this plan is an excuse to add...

M1081 4X4 LMTV air drop cargo truck pic and info request

Yeah, but not in a good way. Took several hours to get the truck out of the yard. And the yard still hasn’t fully recovered.

Well, at least the CTIS wheel valves look salvageable. The rest of the vehicle and the 463L pallets - not so much...

M1081 4X4 LMTV air drop cargo truck pic and info request

LVAD M1081 photos Here's a couple of photos if that'll help. First is of my M1081 resting against a tree. I was trying to drive out of the back yard in Maryland after several weeks of rain, the truck slid down the slight slope and rested against the tree. I used the Self Recovery Winch (SRW)...

What would a LMTV completed run? Pic enclosed Also where do you find the hood racks

OK, LMTV meet in Flagstaff? That'd be a long drive from Colorado Springs, but would be worth it! Keep the group informed on that please!

What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

Put my new personalized Colorado plates on the truck: LVAD Of course, G0L1ATH was not available, and I didn't think about B1GBABY until after the fact. Oh well. And put together all of the parts that have been collecting, so I now have a functional rear emergency gladhand, which can be used...

Finally enough Stew & Stev to write about?

Welcome to the Board and the LMTV Family! I still owe you a phone call and visit! Wife is coming to visit this weekend, so that's out. Will reach out next week for certain! Oh, and you need to post a pic (or three) of your truck! I've had no major problems driving the truck around here. The...

Finally enough Stew & Stev to write about?

Forget the water buffalo, load some International Product Containers (270 gal) in the bed for your water needs. You can always remove them, they aren't very heavy when empty and they're pretty inexpensive. And they make good ballast when full.
