The first thousand or so C-47 Skytrains did not have the large cargo door in the rear fuselage - the later C-47A introduced the big cargo doors. The C-47B introduced the supercharged R-1830 engine to the design. The 36 DC-3As taken over from the airlines by the military were designated C-48...
Dave,
The truck listed above (0230-10304) is a 1967 Kaiser-Jeep. I'd confirm that number by looking at the frame stamping. The registration number listed above 4L467 is not correct - the number is too short (one digit missing).
Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
David
Based on those photos, I'd say your truck is definately a 1952 Reo that at some point has been repowered with a Multifuel engine and an overdrive transmission.
Best wishes,
David
Is the 109394 stamped into the frame? If so, the truck was built in Lansing, MI (rather than South Bend, IN). Do you have the registration number (which should be painted on the inside of the doors and/or under the hood)? From the number, my I am reasonably certain that this truck was built...
Its been said here this is to kiss the rump of big dealers. What big dealer is in Florida? In North Carolina?
If this was to kiss a dealer's rump it would be the trucks at Smyrna, Camp Shelby, in Pennsylvania or Virginia.
I am acquainted with some major dealers - including probably the...
You do know that the R2 doesn't use the same chassis as the M37, right - much less the lack of cab, not withstanding the fact that R2s are super rare - I can think of three restored examples. Moderately difficult, converting an R2 into a one-off custom. Truly difficult, making it look like it...
You should carefully inspect the transmission housing near the PTO on this truck. They are bad about cracking when overloaded like this.
Dunno aboout the five-ton winch - it seems here the winch itself had plenty o'power, just needed that snatch block (and a shear pin).

I am working on this - its not as simple as one would think. I own the copyright to the material in the article - the image of the article itself (page layout, etc.) is the magazine's copyright.
This is made a bit more complicated because some of the data is also going into a book I am working...
RE: tranny fluid
Gee, I just saw this after it came up again. To answer the question asked in December......the lower viscosity oil (10W) was supposed to be used in very cold conditions. Under normal conditions, the 30W non-detergent was to be used. The 30W did not flow well in arctic...
RE: Re: 818
Vehicles purchased by the army are type classified, and this classification can and is changed through the years.
For example - in the mid 1950s a M35 was "Standard"
Once the mulifuel cargo truck M35A1 was classified as Standard, the M35 became "Substitute Standard" and so on...
Boy, I wish I could go. Though I can't, a friend of mine IS going, and is bringing his Studebaker Weasel to the event. This machine though a top quality original vehicle, demonstrates just how versatile and agile these things were/are. 'cause Rick drives it like it was built to be driven, not...
Greetings! I am the author of said article (and copyright owner as well). I'll contact the publisher and get the scoop. Will report back in a couple days.

Well, I am coming to this party a little late.....
Very cool ride Jeff!
How about shooting me the registration number off the hood (or even better, off the inside of the hood?
Mack most definately built dual winch trucks in the 50s, and ten tons until at least 1970.
IIRC, Mack VINs typically...
I had a similar experience. At the time (shortly after 9/11) I lived in a house physically located in one county, yet the post office that served me was in an adjacent county. Further, the property assessor's office listed me as living in a different community than did either the telephone...
Are you the fellow that spoke with me at the Portland convention about these? If you followed up with the fellow I recommended - GREAT. If not, I'm afraid the chance is gone, Mr. Adelman passed away last week.
Here are a couple of photos I copied from his collection years ago - hope they...
Yes, Jacques Littlefield has an operational M88. It was previously owned by the A. F. Budge collection, who, IIRC, bought it from the Israeli military.
Halftracks by far the most common tracked vehicles in civy hands.
Best wishes,
David Doyle
