UPDATE,
As of today, I am no longer purchasing the M920 in Florida. My better judgement had more time to think, and at this point it does not really fit into my current business plan.
Thanks for the offer Wes, but I am gonna get there eventually, and sunny and 70 degrees in Feb is something I cannot turn down.:jumpin:
Plus the experience of driving the 920 home is half the fun.:driver:
I'll second NDTs suggestion, get it moving in low range, then shift it quickly to high while still moving, usually that will get the reduction un stuck
Just a little update, after I traded off 1 welder to Ferro, I am left with 1,and with some mild tinkering this weekend I have it back running. It runs and generates as well as welds now!
I hopefully will get to take it along on the trip to Florida to pick up the M920 in a couple weeks.
Just...
Will do Wes, hopefully this 920 will cooperate and give us no issues on the way home,I am taking my usual loadout for any recovery, everything including the kitchen sink.
I know it has been sitting for a year or so,so decent amounts of air tool oil in the trans air line, plus a transfer case oil...
Just starting this thread for anyone near or enroute between here and there to forewarn you.
Ferro and myself will be making the trip south to pick up and (hopefully) drive the M920 I purchased home,we will be leaving Feb 3rd and hopefully arriving back here on or about Feb 5th.
We will be...
OK,another question came to mind yesterday while I had some free time at work,
Is the VIN / serial number of the M915 series(915,916,917,920) of trucks stamped into the frame or anywhere else OTHER than the data plate inside the drivers door?
Just a quick question,I did a search for replacement fan belt numbers and came up lacking,
I have all my old filter numbers for my M915A1 jotted down, but I would like to take an extra set of belts just in case.
EDIT,I found them in the 5 ton parts cross reference section, evidently my eyes...
No thanks,no 600 lb wheel/tire combos for me, plus something about having to grind off part of the brake drums to make the wheels fit does not instill me with confidence.
I will probably keep it 100% stock, except for maybe a dual fuel feed line modification.
I was actually looking for a M917 dump truck for the grading business I am starting next year, but if all else fails,I may convert this one to a dump.
For now,it will just stay a tractor, the scarceness of M870 or M870A1 trailers will probably discourage me from having another tractor/trailer combo.
Well, after selling off most of my MV collection,it was bound to happen sooner or later.
I agreed to purchase a AMGeneral M920 from a private individual this evening, It is several states away, and pickup will be sometime in mid January.
I guess this puts me back into the "Big truck club" again...
